Hi,
I was received my full diagnosis (IDC stage 3) a week ago, although I had first gone to the clinic and been told that BC was likely 2 weeks earlier. I am having a masectomy followed by chemo and I went back to the clinic today and still have not been given a date for surgery - I have to go back again on Friday, when I might get a date! The waiting is driving me crazy! Has anyone else been through this? I have been told, by the doctors, that this wait makes no difference but at the moment I feel in limbo.
I know that for some everything moves very quickly following diagnosis but not or me. I am still going to work but I can’t make any future plans…Has anyone else been through this?
Helen
Sorry to hear that you are in a state of limbo. I was lucky to get my surgery a week after my dx so didn;t have too long to wait. At the start I thought that every day made a difference but I’ve since found out that a few weeks delay is not a major deal … except for the pyschological aspect that is cos the waiting does drive you half way up the wall. I hope you get a date for your surgery on Friday.
Hi Helen
I have replied to you on another thread but I had to wait 4 weeks for surgery because I had the “benign” lump already removed they did not class me as urgent in as far as first surgery. So the waiting for me what hell, I just found it so hard to move forward even though I knew the tumour had gone. I am sure you will not be waiting as long as that.
Where abouts in country are you?
Keep pushing them for a date, don’t hold back ok.
Let us know how you get on and keep in touch
take care

Hi Helen
I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3 - 22mm on the 8th April. I was told by the Consultant they would operate in 2-3 weeks. When my appointment came through I nearly fainted when I read that it would be 4 weeks. I wasnt happy and phoned the breast nurse and was told exactly the same as you that the wait would not change anything. I also visited my GP and also phoned the helpline who all said the same. The waiting does drive me crazy and also makes me angry. I have tried keeping myself busy by cooking and cleaning and this has helped. I have only 8 days to go now.
I hope you get a date when you visit them on Friday. Take care.
Thinking of you.

Hi Helen
It is the waiting that’s the worst. I am taking sleeping tablets as I cant sleep with the worry.I was diagnosed with intermediate DCIS in my right breast on 13.2.08. I have subsequently been diagnosed with the same in my right breast on 21.4.08 and am still waiting for a date for my double mastectomy and recon. They say there is no hurry. The plastic surgeon they have allocated me with hasn’t had a clinic for 4 weeks. I am seeing him at last on Thursday. Hopefully I will know more then.
Good luck

Hi Helen
I was diagnosed with Grade 2 lobular bc on 6/2. Had to wait until 10/3 for mastectomy. Like you thought it was a long time. Was assured by GP that a month wont make much difference. Then given a date of 18/4 for node clearance. This was cancelled within an hour of my leaving for hospital as scan (which they had had since 8/4) showed something suspicious. Node clearance rescheduled for 12/5. So far it has been nearly three months with a mastectomy and lots of tests. I still have to have chemo, rads, Herceptin, Tamoxifen and I dont know what else.
It seems to vary where you live in the country.
Good luck with all your treatment.

Dear All
Thanks for all you replies - it really helps to feel a little less alone. It seems like the ‘no rush’ philosophy is pretty widepread! I went to the hospital today and finally got a date - the 15th May. so another 2 weeks waiting… I am in London and it seems that they are just soo busy.
Claire - I notice that your your wait should be coming to an end soon. What date is your surgery?
Maxine how did your clinic go today?
Good luck to everyone
Helen
Hi Helen,
Glad you have finally got a date but sorry to hear that it was not sooner.
I live in Warwick in the Midlands. My op is next Wednesday and I’m having the Sentinile node imaging on Tuesday.
Good luck with your op.

I had my surgery within a week, but waited ages for chemo.
If you can use the time to get yourself healthy, lots of fruit and veg and exercise, that might make the wait seem more bearable!
