Waiting is the worst!

Hello all,

I’m new to this forum.  I discovered a lump in my left breast near my armpit on 7/9/21.  I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on 8/6/21.  I got the radiologist report on 8/11/21 stating a “hypoechoic irregular 3.2 x 3.2 x 2.5 cm mass. This is highly suspicious.”  They also found suspicious microcalcifications in the right breast.  They labeled it a Birads 5, highly suggestive of malignancy.  I had  an ultrasound biopsy on the left breast and a stereotactic biopsy on the right breast on 8/17/21.  Other than the lump, I don’t appear to have any other symptoms.  Is that normal or should there be other symptoms?

I know it’s only been a week, but my doctor seemed to think we’d have the results back by yesterday.  I was supposed to have a follow up with her yesterday to go over the results, but they called me yesterday morning to tell me they didn’t have the results back yet and had to reschedule me for 9/8/21.  I’m already not the most patient person as it is, so this is just brutal.  I applaud and admire all of you who have gone through this.  I have to say I’m not handling any of this well.  Everyone tells me it must be a good thing that it’s taking so long to get the results.  I guess they figure if it was bad, I’d get results sooner.  I’m not so sure.  Is this a normal amount of time to wait for biopsy results?  I’ve read the average is 7-10 days, but if more tests are needed, it could take longer. I’ve heard some people get their results back within a couple days.  My nerves are about shot.  I just want to know what I’m dealing with.

Thank you for listening (reading),

Amy

Hi Amy

i went back after 2 weeks for my first biopsy results.I’ve waited over 3 weeks for the results from my lumpectomy and lymph node removals.

I was told that there is  a National shortage of pathologists, plus COVID, plus holiday time mean that results are taking a while.

Do you know what sort of cancer you have e.g lobular or ductal or is that what you’re waiting for? They will also be testing to see if your cancer is hormone receptive. That will affect your treatment e.g ER+ (progesterone) and HER2+

Please try to keep busy, the waiting is the worst
