Just wondering about others experiences regarding yearly mammogram results. My paper work says results in 4 to 6 weeks? Surely if something showed up they would inform you faster than this🤷🏻♀️
Hi Sue
I was told if they found anything they would ring , otherwise results 2 weeks think every trust is different x
They told me they use to phone if a concern, but now 2 wait for the letter. That was a long two weeks to the day, but thankfully no issues. Now a year to wait again xx
My first annual mammo check in July 2023 yielded no letter or phone call however I was asked by the radiologist at the time if I wanted to see the images, which I did. She said that she could see nothing untoward but all images have to be viewed by two doctors to ensure nothing is missed which takes longer (if they disagree, a third, more senior practitioner gets the casting vote). So, whilst I would have preferred a letter I didn’t get hung up about it. The NHS clinical care is great, the admin, not so much.
This year I had the second check also in July but there were NO doctors available due to summer holidays until the middle of August. I got the letter five weeks after. All fine. I don’t get scanxiety so it was no biggie but if one does, it’s a bit long drawn out. Maybe better at other times of the year.
Yes, it is different everywhere and largely, I believe, down to staffing levels. 5 weeks after mine I called them and got results. Never received a letter. Others here the same so it wasn’t a one off mistake. I am now waiting for ultrasound on my good breast and it is 5.5 weeks wait. The waiting is the worst thing and it just gets longer. I also had delays on my operations, annual check up and couldn’t even get to see an oncologist. I had to see a nurse instead eventually and after a three month wait. I hope you get your results soonx
Hello sue2
Thanks for posting. It’s natural to ask when you’ll get the results of your yearly mammogram and if you’d be contacted sooner if anything showed up.
It sounds like you may be having yearly mammograms as part of follow up after breast cancer rather than having more frequent screening due to an increased risk of breast cancer.
As @charlottebee says, each trust will have different waiting times.
You could contact your breast care nurse to ask if they would call sooner if there was anything of concern.
