Waiting time for BRCA test results

I am in the process of going through genetic testing for BRCA 1 and 2. I had the consultation with the genetic consultant and had the blood sample taken on the same day. I was told the results would be back in 6-8 weeks. It has now been 11 weeks and I haven’t received the results back yet. I am getting more anxious by the day and constantly watching for the post. I was diagnosed with breast cancer myself in 2013 but it is my children I am most concerned about. I am finding it more difficult to think about anything else at the moment and getting more stressed as time goes on. I rang to chase it up a few days ago and was told they would get back to me but have heard nothing as yet. Just wondering how long do people normally have to wait for the results? Sorry this has turned into a bit of an epic post but just really need to know now.

Hi Holly - sorry you have had to wait so long to know your results -the anxious waiting is torture.I need to bite the bullet and do this at some point myself - like you say more worried for my child than for myself . Fingers crossed for you .Jill x

Currently waiting for the results of my Braca test results its doing my head in finished all my treatment in jan so the prospect of a positive result is not want I want to hear im frustrated That i may end up back on the cancer roller-coaster with risk reducing surgerys i wish the test didn’t take as long but still grateful i was offered it i fought hard enough for it x

I had the test on Monday and was told that I only had to wait 4 weeks. Have consultation already booked for 4 weeks time to get my assessment.

My test came back negative for Braca 1 and 2 relieved and happy x
