Hi,
I have HER2+ ER- stage 3 invasive ductile in my right breast and completed my 6 rounds of carboplatin and docetaxal on the 30th Aug with phesgo ongoing. I’ve known that a mastectomy and radiotherapy would be needed all along.
I have been told all along that surgery would be within 4-6 weeks. I went for my final surgeon appt and opted for mastectomy with immediate DIEP where I was told I would have surgery with 31 days.
However my surgery date is 10 weeks, so a month longer than all dates given previously.
I haven’t had any proper guidance on if this is too long of a wait in between finishing chemo and having surgery and it’s hugely affecting my mental health! Can you help?

Hello hhad
Thanks for posting.
We know waiting to start treatment or start subsequent treatments is a difficult time especially if this wait is longer than expected. You explain this is affecting your mental health which is understandable.
You say at your appointment with the surgeon you were told your mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction would be within 31 days. This is the standard time frame from agreeing the treatment. However, you have since been given a date for around 10 weeks.
I wonder if your team have explained why the date has changed, it’s important for you to understand the reason for this. You could contact your breast care nurse to discuss this and let them know how it is impacting on you. They may feel as you are having ongoing treatment with Phesgo that this delay will not affect the overall outcome.
It might help to get further support while you wait. You can do this through this section of our forums and our Someone Like Me service might be on interest. The organisation Keeping Abreast might be of interest
