Waiting

Hello

I’m new to this.

Previous invasive BC in Feb 2007, aged 39, which was treated with WLE, axillary node removal, chemo and radio. All good, no further issues till a regular screening showed DCIS, 21/12. As ive previously had BC I need a mastectomy.

My diagnosis was given at one hospital because it was found under the national breast screening program. I have now been transfered to my local breast unit.

Today 29/12, I have been told that I was not discussed in MDT as they wanted further info from the other hospital!

This has driven my stress and anxiety through the roof! By the time i see a surgeon it will have been a month since diagnosis, 2 months since the mammogram, surely this wait is not acceptable? I cant find any guidelines on waiting times, can anyone help?

Hello Alipally,

So sorry to read you’re in such a worrying situation at the moment, waiting around just causes anxiety and stress which we can all do without at the moment I think for you dealing with two different sites is what is holding you up a bit plus Christmas break.

If I can remember rightly when I was first diagnosed five years ago, I think  you’re still in the guideline at the moment, however these meetings are held quite frequently I think you need to keep chasing them to put your mind at rest have a word with the Breast Cancer team and tell them how you’re feeling and hopefully they’ll get you sorted, you could even call the first hospital and ask them have they sent your notes across yet a little nudge there would help don’t think you’re being a nuisance to anyone we have to make her own luck in this world sometimes.

Wishing you well, health and happiness for year ahead.

Hi there - have a look at my thread - treatment delayed what can I do ?

I wrote asking the same thing a couple of months back as I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in both breasts in August and after delays in getting various full body scans/ tests took me to early October was then offered surgery in December.  4 months after diagnosis.

I was told the NHS guidelines are, you should start treatment within 62 days of a cancer referall or 31 days from when your treatment plan was agreed with your consultant.

The MDT meetings are important and yes I had times when results had not got to the team in time for their  discussions but would say at the moment your experience is not uncommon and nor is your timeline. My breast clinic is so busy we regularly wait 2 hours to be seen in follow up.

If it gets alot worse you could do what I did which was

I wrote to Chief exec of my NHS Trust asking for his help and pointing out that these guidelines had been broken and that I has been advised to go to my MP or the press. I got a reply and my surgery brought forward by 1 month. I don’t like q jumping but this was stage 3 cancer spreading in me I decided I had to fight for my life!!!.

Good Luck lots of hugs
