walking for health during treatment in Sheffield

Hi, I live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and have just completed chemo. i am waiting for surgery and radiotherapy. I am keen to boost my strength and stamina by doing some leisurely walks, but hate walking alone. i wonder if like me, there is anyone out there whose friends all work and would enjoy some company for gentle walks daytime during the week? i ahve found that walking has kept me going so far, but my fatigue levels are now quite restrictive, so company would be welcome as psychologically i get frustrated and depressed when i can’t do what i want to do. Hope to hear from somebody soon! Jx

Hi

I came from South Yorkshire originally now live in Lincs just had first chemo FEC had surgery before chemo began - mast. Have you thought about maybe advertising and taking a dog for a walk if no human company available? It is hard to not be able to do what you where doing before isnt it. When where you dx?

Sending hugs

Karen

hi

I live about 15 miles from Sheffield but can’t help you on the walks front as I am going back to work soon. I was just being nosy- are you having your treatment at Weston Park? I finished my radiotherapy 2 weeks ago but still going every 3 weeks for Herceptin. I had my chemo at Doncaster but having spent nearly 3 weeks in Weston Park with an infection I opted going there for Herceptin.

Hi

I’m in London so can’t join you but love walking and so have been going out with the Ramblers.
Have a look at their sites, you don’t have to join in order to walk with them for the first couple of occassions and can sometimes pick and choose from a couple of groups in your area.
Three weeks after surgery ( a mastectomy) I managed a 4 miles walk with Redbridge Ramblers I was shattered but felt SO good. I then managed 9 miles a few days before starting radio therapy and am now gradually building up again.

Happy walking - you certainly live in a lovely area.
