Want to help my mum-in-law

Hello, I’m after some advice. My mum-in-law is going to be starting radiotherapy next week and I want to do something nice for her. She’s had enough flowers to start a florist and she’s also diabetic so chocolate is out. What I would really like to do is put together some sort of care package for her that she can take with her for her radiotherapy sessions, but I don’t know what to put in it. She’s not a great reader but I thought of putting some audio books on an mp3 player for her. And then I’ve read that radiotherapy can cause dry mouth, so I could put in something to drink and some lip balm or something. But I don’t know what else. Would anyone here have any suggestions as to what might be useful or helpful for her. Thanks in advance.

Hi Gabymolly

What a lovely thought. I had radiotherapy earlier this year and found the biggest problems were waiting to go into appointments so I got through a lot of books and magazines so audio books would be a good idea - also for travelling to the hospital.

The main problem was soreness - I found using a 99% Aloe Vera gel helped - if her drs are agreeable perhaps buy her some of this - also soft strappy vests for when wearing a bra gets too uncomfortable.

I didn’t really get a dry mouth with radiotherapy but you are advised to drink lots of water.

I hope she gets on OK.

Lynn

Thanks for the helpful suggestions Lynn.
