Water retention in breast

Hi, everyone newbie here, just had lumpectomy and lump node axilery clearance with mammoplasty.
Just wanted to know how the fluid will be cleared as I didn’t not have the option to have drains as it wasn’t a normal Brest reduction as surgeon removed cancer.
I’ve been told it will some sort of laser treatment, has anyone gone through the same? All answers appreciated x

Hi Sham

Thanks for posting asking about the fluid in your breast after having a lumpectomy and axillary node clearance.

The fluid you describe sounds like a seroma. This is fluid that can collect in the area that you have had surgery, most often the breast and the armpit. Most people won’t have a drain when they have a lumpectomy and lymph node surgery. When a seroma develops it will usually be reabsorbed by the body over time.

You mention about laser treatment, I wonder if you mean radiotherapy which is offered to people who have had breast conserving surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment.
