I just listened to “Grocer Jack”, I think it came form Excerpt from a Teenage Opera by Keith West on Smooth Radio. Every single time I listen to this it makes me cry, hubby and son thought I was having yet another emotional moment, which I was, seem to have plenty of them lately, anything sets me off.
A lot, if I think about them all. I can recall (cos I’m an old chick) watching them play live of Tops of the Pops and those “perfect” little kids singing about Grocer Jack!
Anyway, much more recently moved to tears by Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye by Beth Nielsen Chapman from the album Sand and Water. The title track is also a weepy as the album was written by her after the death of her husband from cancer, leaving her and a baby son, very sad.
Abide With Me is a reall killer because it’s mostly played at funerals, although I don’t dislike it I really cannot bear to hear it.
A song called CALLING ALL ANGELS by Jane Siberry - it was the song at the end of the film ‘Pay it Forward’ - in fact someone TRIED to sing it on x factor last night and I said to my OH its one of the songs I want played at my funeral - HE IGNORED ME!! - god forbid I will get anywhere near that stage (cos I aint!!) - but think its a beautiful song - but always brings tears to my eyes and makes me remember the ending of the film - was sobbing crying the first time I watched it!!
Has anyone heard a song by sarah brightman called “time to say goodbye”, think its like an opera song and a bloke sings it with her in italian, oh my god its the most fantastic song ever, so powerful.
oh good, i downloaded that to my ipod, i try to sing it but then it goes all italian, i can you all now having to get that song because it sticks in your head. The first time i heard that song was on Ronin and i always loved it but never knew what it was called, so i had to buy the DVD the other day and look at the end credits, im stupid because i’d spent a long time on the internet trying to find out what the song was called and who sang it. I love it.
I got a dvd from breast cancer in aberdeen and the song playing through it was Keane (somewhere only we know ) if you listen to the words it is so relevant to people going through this .I have to admit i had a wee tear ,to tell you the truth i was crying my eyes out !!!11

One of the songs on my CD is called Somebody Loves You and even thou its me singing, It makes me go cold…
I know I know
sometimes your dreams dont come true
I know I know
I will never have you
Dont think of me to much
when she dont hold you close enough
where ever you are Somebody loves you
I’m under the stars you see above you
what ever your fate its not to late
to say goodbye
where ever you are
where ever you are
where ever you are
Somebody Loves You
this song is beautiful and has an unearthly feel to it that I can’t describe…
blimey maybe not the right thread for me just now. Wud love your CD Jax sounds lovely.
I have become obsessed with ‘I hope I’m old before i die’ (so true) Who wrote it?? Also a Isla Grant song ‘Mothers Chair’
The other song is a religious one which no one will of heard of called ‘My Days are in His Hands’ really tells the story that its God who controls how long our time on earth is and we have no control of it. completely true hey???
We used to learn a hymn a week at school ready for the regular assembly and my Dad (RIP) always made us watch Songs of Praise!
Do you have a favourite hymn? I was always stirred by Onward Christian Soldiers and To God Be The Glory. Never have a chance to sing hymns these days - if I went inside our church I think the walls would likely crumble and I wouldn’t want to be responsible for the repairs.
It is the saddest but also uplifting film ever!!! I have not watched it in ages but if I ever hear that song it just sends shivers down spine - as I said thats going to be my funeral song (in about 40 years time!!)
