weight gain and chemo

Was just wondering - they weigh and measure you before starting chemo. Do they take into account the weight gain you have after the first couple of sessions and does anyone know if they should adjust your medications to take into account your extra weight? Forgot to ask my oncologist that last time I saw her!! I have done nothing but stuff carbs and sugar since it started and have put on over a stone in weight now - aghhh!!

Hi Karen, I did my chemo last year and was weighed before and during it. After my first four epi and one xeloda, i was weighed and the next dosage of xeloda was altered because of the weight I had put on !!! (mostly due to the xeload tablets as couldn’t stop eating on them)It certainly worth asking. i think it may depend on the type of chemo you have too.

Hi Karen, In my experience they always weighed me before each chemo session. I too like Rachy was on Xeloda and I believe your weight determins how many tablets for chemo you have with Xeloda. They continued to weigh me at the ward for the 8 months I was on this chemo recently. But I was never measured me at any time ( thank goodness!) Just ask the nurse when you go for your chemo or phone the BC Nurse to put yuour mind at rest. Love Val

Hi Rachy and Val,
thank you for your messages - Thats interesting - I was wondering about that. I am half way through 6 x FEC and have put on loads from the steroids and just plain eating too much and not enough exercise! Will mention it to the oncologist when I see her before the next FEC. Thought that might be the reason i have held onto my hair (or some of it!) for longer than most!
So glad you guys are around to give some great advice and help to us newbies!
