I am 40yrs old and I was diagnosed 5 yrs ago and have had 3 surgeries, 5 courses of chemo, one yr of herceptin, four yrs of tamoxifen, and various anti-depressants and pain killers. My weight had increased from 9 and half stone to over 11 by this time last yr despite exercise and virtually starving myself. I attended a complementary clinic last yr and was tested for candida in my gut which came back as an extremely high score and has been developing over the yrs due to my lowered immune system and the abuse the drugs have had on my digestive system. I began a yeast free diet and with supplements have lost over a stone. It may well be that the weight gain reported by many is due to candida because of all the abuse our systems have taken and not actually down to the drugs. Anyone with bloating, stomache cramps and weight gain despite their best efforts to lose it should try a candida test. Hope it brings some relief.
oh my word Nic - that might be it!! I’m on Tamoxifen and thought that my weight gain was due to that, but as I had terrible thrush when I was going through chemo, maybe it’s the yeast! I’m on 1400 calories a day and cycle a lot, but my weight seems to be stuck at 11 1/2 stone. Thanks for this - I’m gonna try it!
Hope everything else in your recovery is going ok.
