I has breast cancer, it was removed with surgeery and radiotherapy and now I am on Anastrazole (I was on tamoxifen, but changed to Anastazole because I had to have a hysterectomy last year)
I have put on 2 stone in less than a year
My oncologist says its not the Anastrozole, has anyone else had this? I just cant shift it?

I think you might find its the hysterectomy. I had one 8 years ago and put a lot of weight on over a 2 year period. I changed my diet as never had to watch my weight before and also started exercising more and it came back off. I’m been eating what he hell I like since diagnosis and but some back on but I know I’ll shift it again. To be honest I think you will just have to accept you will put some weight on and if it bothers you, lime it does me, change your lifestyle a little to lose and maintain. Pain in the bum at times though
Hi. I am in the same boat. In my 5th post year and 3 stone heavier. The most I ever manage to shift is half a stone but still gain. …so depressed ?
Hi Ladies,
As if we didn’t all have enough to worry about and make us feel sad and then we have excess weight to worry about too. I have always been ‘too heavy’ and tried to be ‘less heavy’ at times. However, having had a hysterectomy some 15 years ago thought that I was fighting a losing battle. Weight gain does seem to be linked to hormone balance/imbalance. But I had at times made a concerted effort and lost some weight. Just prior to being diagnosed with BC I lost three stone, a complete miracle! Then after treatment could feel myself gaining steadily. I was then diagnosed with bowel cancer - I know my first question was ridiculous. ‘Will this make me lose weight’. ‘Yes’ they said. No it blooming didn’t. I continued to get bigger…so decided to join Weight Watchers in January and lo and behold with a managed eating plan which I am really enjoying as I feel in control ie can eat cake and drink wine if I choose, I have lost three stone. I am now fit enough to row and am training for the Great London River Race - the equivalent of the London Marathon.
With WW I am an online member only and don’t go to meetings or have to expose my weight to anyone but have all the benefits of making my own tailored eating plan and setting my own goals. There is also an online community who are incredibly supportive and helpful. I still wish to lose another three stone and am determined not to let this blooming cancer thing dictate yet another area of my life.
I can’t stop the cancer returning but maybe by getting rid of as many oestrogen producing cells I can at least do what I can to help.
Love and hugs to you all.
Katie

My oncologist said I should join weight watchers actually, just have to face the fact that I am not the same person as before! Thanks for all yru messages
Isn’t it a bummer when you get through everything and then have to face the huge disappointment of gaining weight. I had been overweight for several years and in 2012 decided I had to do something about it. I got a health trainer assigned to me from GP surgery who helped with food intake issues and introduced me to gym attendance, which I really enjoyed. I didn’t diet as such but ate smaller portions and ate more sensibly, and over 3 years I lost 5 and a half stones. I had just reached my target weight and feeling good, then was diagnosed with BC in 2015! I have been on Anastrozole for 18 months and have gained a stone and a half…really disappointed. I know some of it is my fault but feel sure it is partly linked to the Anastrozole. I am trying to shift the weight but not having much success. Still going to gym 3 times a week but feel I am lacking some of the stamina I had pre BC. Plus having lots of joint pains and have trigger finger on both hands…but side effects sound similar for Letrazole and Exemestane so am sticking to the devil I know for now. I sympathise with you all …but if the A works it will all be worth it!! Nice to know we are all in this together. I find this site really helpful. Brenda S.
