Weight loss advice

Hi, I’m looking for advice/ opinions on weight loss injections.

I had ER positive HER2 negative breast cancer two years ago and have been on tamoxifen ever since.

I am doing well, but since being on tamoxifen I have put on two stone. I have tried slimming world, exercise etc but find it so hard to shift. It’s really getting me down, I feel like I’m in a strangers body. All the things I used to do with ease are now a struggle. I know two stone doesn’t sound like an awful lot but as I am only 4ft 10inch it makes a big difference.

I have been so against weight loss injections and saying I don’t want to put my body through anything else but I’m now feeling the extra weight is putting me at health risks so I’m seriously considering it.

I will obviously check with my consultant but I just wondered if any of you had any experience/advice x

Hi I’m on letrozole and since starting it 18 months ago I too have put on 2 stone. I’m not eating any differently with the joint pain from the tablets this extra weight is making it difficult to walk. Like you I have tried many diets. I’m willing to try anything at the moment my body can’t cope with the extra weight at 4ft 11in and 70kg.

I am the same. My eating habits haven’t changed but my body has changed so much. I’m also finding it difficult with the joint pain. I am 71kg which at 4.11 is in the obese range :sad_but_relieved_face:

It’s hard to decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. The joint pain, depression, hair loss, and weight gain.

I’m really interested in this. I’m researching the weight loss jabs and their possible links to longevity, I want to know more about how it might help (or not help) people with cancer. There are suggestions that it does have benefits, but I’m really conscious of not getting hooked on hype. Just wading in so I can keep this thread on my radar.

Hi, this year is my 5th cancer free year and I too have put weight on, doesn’t help that I have been on steroids for 3.5 years for polymyalgia!

I asked my GP about weight loss jabs and she said that they have been shown to cause thyroid cancer in test subjects (rats) so it wasn’t worth the risk. Also because of the steroids, I wouldn’t be accepted as they can make you gain weight. She also warned me against buying anything online.

I have had some success with Cambridge and low carb, but still would like to lose a lot more.

It’s not enough that my body has been ravaged by surgery, my hair has never been the same since chemo and the hormone therapy causes it to fall out, but my weight impacts my confidence massively.

All that aside, I’m just really grateful to be here, hidden away at home, wearing my duvet! xxx

@dolly-diva22 I was diagnosed with ER+ and HER2- last year. I had surgery in September and told czncer free in October. I had to have adjuvant chemo from November to March and then finished radiotherapy 4 weeks ago. I have had 2 Zoladex injections (4wks apart) which will continue for 3 years. I take Tamoxifen and in the next couple.of weeks will be starting Abemaciclib. I was on mounjaro before diagnosis and lost 2.5st in 4 months. I stopped it when I had my surgery. Since then I have gained 1.5st and feel terrible. I spoke to my Oncologist about weight loss injections and she didn’t have much of an opinion either way, she just said they could cause an upset tummy and so could my Abemaciclib so that’s something to be aware of. I started wegovy at the weekend after going privately for a prescription with Asda Pharmacy. I declared my history and all current medications. If I feel unwell I will stop. I feel at the minute that a massively unhealthy weight is worse for me than side effects so will see how I go (sorry for the long post) x

Thank you for posting @cornwall1234 as this is entirely relevant to me. I too have gained 22lb since starting this shit show and I’m not happy. Like you, my onco said it was fine for me to take it but that ‘the NHS won’t pay for it, and you probably won’t get it as they won’t think you’re big enough’. I beg to differ on that front. I’m having separate conversations with my GP who also is ok about me asking for GLP-1 as my blood pressure is ridiculously high and I don’t want to go on meds for that. I think losing weight will get that back down. Having my bloods done to check cholesterol and blood sugar in the hope that this will support my application to get a private prescription.

I’d be interested in hearing how you get on with it while on your other meds. x
