Oh, and if anyone other than my OH ruffled my fluff I’d break their arms off!
Daisy girl I am definitely up for that badge!! I am comfortable coming on here and chatting/ranting/crying or laughing but it seems to be the sole topic of conversation elsewhere. Bumped into a colleague today and said hi how are you, reply was immediately “No, more importantly how are you, never mind me!!!” I know it’s well meant but good grief not everyone else becomes unimportant!!! Just climbing off my soap box now and mini rant over!!!
‘Its all about positive thinking. Thinking negatively and having a ‘woow is me’ approach can cause physical effects too. Even if you’re positive as I’m sure you’re friend was before she died, at least she died happy by being positive’! - my ‘boss’ ;-/
This is just one of the ‘motivational’ pieces of claptrap my boss came out with today - after she’d told me how soul detroying it was at work with people losing their jobs…oh and by the way ‘when do you think you’ll be coming back to work?’ hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahah this is me laughing lividly I am one of the most positive people I know!
Rather than a badge maybe I should shave don’t touch in my fluff!
I,ll have a badge please in fact i,ll have 2!!
I,ve been told by a friend!!! well you ONLY had R/therapy why were you feeling so poorly??? AAAAAAAAAAAArgh!!
I,ve also heard and wanted to throttle the offender oh well thats the best type of Cancer!!! Is any type the best type???
But the creme da la creme came from a work mate…or maybe not! who didnt have the nerve to say it to me (were both nurses)
Its only breast cancer time to get her asse back to work (1 week on from R/therapy)
Sometimes I wonder where compassion went?
Love to you all xx
I am a newbie but so far I have had-
‘are you enjoying your time off?’
‘you wouldn’t want big breasts anyway’
And from someone who had had bc ‘sorry to hear you are poorly’
Today a teacher at my kids school said ‘lovely to see you, are you well?’ my expression said it all as she knew I have bc ‘well yes thanks, other than the cancer, tip top’
I was in sainsburys a few weeks ago when the checkout lady asked me how I was and if I had my surgery yet. Well I was gobsmacked as I didn’t know her from Adam but apparently she had been with her sister at the clinic the previous week and recognised me. Last time I’ve been to that cashier.
I was asked at work ‘are you able to have dialogue with your body in the morning?’ WTF?!?!
I replied; ‘it’s more like a screaming match, but thanks’ which I was quite happy with. Respectful, but I made my point.
I’m keeping note to see who gets the prize for the crassest remark during this ere long haul… winning entry at the mo is “sorry to hear about…you know… happened to a friend of mine recently. She’s in the psychiatric unit now - couldn’t cope with the chemotherapy” !!! I put the phone down - did a Victor Meldrew (I don’t BELIEVE it) then fell about!
GIJaneH, I can’t believe some people, don’t they engage their brain before they speak?!! Unbelievable …
that must be the winner GiJane surely nobody can beat that one can they??? UNBELIEVABLE !!!
Think I actually put this on this thread about a year ago when it happened, but GI Jane’s post reminded me:
On the way to hospital to have a port fitted, my taxi driver never once asked why I was going to hospital but spent the entire journey telling my about all his ailments, including piles (nooo! too much information!!!), then finished by saying “Oh yes, the Alexandra - my friend went there, well in fact he DIED there”.
And no - he didn’t get a tip

I came home yesterday from a three day stay in hospital with Neutropenic Sepsis. While in there i was chatting to the fella who was bringing the drinks round, was having quite a nice conversation till he said ‘oh well loads of people get breast cancer now, its not such a scary word these days’. What!! Im in the chemo isolation ward with BC & a potentially life threatening illness, nooooo not scary at all. The conversation dried up after that, lol. x
met a friend ( now ex !!) who said why are you tearful? you are not ill!! you don’t even have cancer.
The treatment is just in case.
Well that’s alright then, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, herceptin all just in case.
I refrained from hitting her , just in case I hurt her.

Oh well, that’s alright then!!! So glad she knows! Honestly, some people… Does she get the “Miss Sensitivity” prize this year? Makes you wonder why we put ourselves through all this, doesn’t it? Best fun I’ve had for years (not!!)
I had a conversation with my dippy dad (who i love dearly) i was telling how im feeling stronger about things and focused on getting organised for chemo etc
He decided this was the time to talk about when his brother in law went through chemo several years ago and couldnt cope with it and he understood why people became suicidal WTF?
Have just come out of hospital where I was in a 3 bedded bay. An auxiliary came in and said quite loudly “oh you work in Marie curie don’t you” I hate this publicising at best of times as it always means I know someone directly or indirectly in the hospital . Then to add insult to injury, she pulled out her notes and said "there
Is someone else on the ward from 'MC, gave me her name! (confidentiality and all!) and said she would let her know about me! I was mortified as I am such a private person. Cried when my OH got there and he went to gently complain to the sister. To be fair the auxiliary did come to apologise then, but in lot of ways damage was done. Its like your life doesn’t belong to you anymore with bc, it seems to give others rights that they didnt have before!
Oh this one really got to me! A man was chatting to me on the radiotherapy unit while i was waiting to go in for my session and wait for it he said
" one day you will understand cancer is a gift " by the way he is not diagnosed with a terminal cancer and does not wake up most days wondering how long he’s got. So I very assertively informed him that no, no it is not!!
If it’s a gift I would refuse it and return to sender.
Worst thing which has happened to me…
Was admitted to hospital with neutropenia. Huge problems eating due to ulcers etc. None of the staff on the ward were remotely concerned about my diet and quite frankly, if my family hadn’t brought in food, I would have starved.
Unable to heat soup in the hospital because (direct quote) “We don’t have a microwave anymore. We had to get rid of it because the staff couldn’t keep it clean”
The thing which sent me into the depths of despair was when I was given some soup from the hospital kitchen in a white plastic wide-top beaker. (I’m a nurse and the only time I hand these out is to relatives of people who need help). Somebody in the kitchen looked at me and thought I couldn’t manage cutlery!
Agree with wanting to scream at the next person who tells me I have a nice shaped head and nearly hit my husband last night after he told me it was great that I was making a ‘statement’ by not wearing anything on my head (Doh it’s been 29 effing degrees and I have no effing choice!)
Went in the bank the other day only for this bloke my mum and dad have known for years to shout across at me. …HAVE U GOT CANCER.!!!wtf i have never been speachless but he then came out with… OH I WONDERED WHY YOU WERE BALD! !! I did have a hat on but if anybody was in doubt they werent now!!!
Next he came out with.Oh well at least you can be cured, well that was me on one i said… Oh what makes you say that then? He replied. .Well they wouldnt be spendind all this money on you if you couldnt be! !
I had a right rant saying they were HOPING it could cure me but there is no promises. Then he said no good looking at it lkke that i had to be positive!!!
Good job my friend had finished at the counter.
We both left gobsmacked! !!
Sorry girls rant over.Love Sharon xx
