what Bra should i buy for after my LD recon

Hi all you lovely peeps,
I got a phone call last Friday asking me how i feel about having my Op this Friday 16th July, Originally i was going to my surgeon on 2nd August so this has threw me a bit, but the timing will be good as my 15 yr old daughter will be off from school and i wont need to take leave to cover the holidays, my BC nurse said to buy sports bras as i will need to wear one 24 /7 but which ones have you found to be the best, I am a 38 DD, my nerves are kicking in but i know i want to have 2 puppies again, so i want to have it done, but you know i dont really want another operation, I have been today for my pre op checks and will go in on Thursday afternoon for a CT and Mammogran, then have my Op sometime on Friday, dont know yet what type of implant i will be having,But i have told them i dont really want to go smaller as i wouldnt be in proportion to the rest oif my body, so i will anxiously await the outcome.

Hi trowster
I tried several, but the best one was the Royce front fastening one-not the comfort bra, the more substantial one. It was pricy for such a delightful piece of underwear, but was the only one I found didn’t rub or pull immediately after mx/recon, and for me the front fastening was very useful as I couldn’t do up a back fastening one or pull on a crop top-style. Since then I have heard women recommending marks and Sparks ones, and one friend said matalan had some good ones-hopefully someone else on hre will have tried them.
All the best for the surgery

Hi Trowster

If I were you I would check with your PS/BCN - I was specifically advised NOT to buy a front-fastening bra.

I bought a couple of M&S sports bras, but in fact preferred the ones I bought from Asda at about a quarter of the price - not sure what size they go up to. Also Primark are recommended by some people.

And probably for a couple of days you will not be in a bra at all, depending on what type of contraption your PS uses post-op. (I have had 2 LD flaps, by two different PSs - the first one used a Velcro-type band which went around me under my arms so as it prevent the implants from popping up and I had to wear this for 6 weeks, and the second used something which I can only describe as a surgical boob-tube. No doubt they each had their own reasons.)

Good luck on Friday. I am sure you won’t regret it. I am absolutely thrilled with mine!

Bubs xx

my recon is DIEP rather than LD flap, but I prefer the m&s non-underwired maximum support bra to any of the sports bras that I bought.

Hi Trowster
Just seen Bubs post, so thought I should add that my recon was just an expander, then implant, no flaps,-so maybe my experience of bras doesn’t help here!
All the best with it all

i really like the amoena sports bra – they also have post mastectomy ones but the sports bra was best for me. of course it is good to confirm with your ps because they all have different preferences- some of them prefer underwires or different types.
