Having mascetomy on 29th and will be staying in overnight. I have button down PJ’s, a front fastening bra. Will I need to take a dressing gown? Any tips, advice appreciated.
Definitely dressing gown and slippers ( I had to walk down to theatre in my gown ) , phone charger ( one that doesn’t need plugging in if poss ) , ear plugs and an iPad .
Hi Claire
Good luck with the surgery. One thing I remember about my hospital stays is that the bedding is crap if you tend to feel cold. I remember being in the oncology unit, half-wearing a padded parka because the extra blankets were so thin but I was attached to so many bleeping drips. So, if you’re a person who feels the cold, bed socks are essential and maybe a thick cardigan - you can always use it as a blanket! Make sure your slippers are secure. You may be a bit wobbly, you may be temporarily attached to a drip. You don’t want to be slipping out of mules or slides.
Apart from that, you have plenty of practical suggestions. All the best xx
Hi Clare,
Based on my lumpectomy (also having mastectomy now, two weeks after you) I’d say a dressing gown that’s easy to get off at the arm, a front-fastening bra, something to read and maybe squash to drink with the water. Also slippers as you walk to theatre yourself. I think they give you a drain dolly in the hospital, but you can order one online from draindollies if you want a spare.
I’m getting worried about how to sleep when home and how to get in and out of bed, so have literally just posted a question about that and travelling in the car etc.
Wishing you well for Wednesday xx
