? what do skin mets look like

Hi Folks
Thought i had posted but cant find it, so sorry if i am repeating myself. Have TNBC, diagnosed Feb this year. Had Mastectomy March, and have had x2 FEC chemo. Last week found red spot at the end of my scar. Looks a bit like dry skin. However some days looks like a little blister. I am worried as it is not going away, and creams have not helped. Contacted my Breast Nurse today who is arranging for me to be seen to get in checked out. However I am worried sick it is a recurrence. If so what happens re treatment? Any advice would be great.Does the worrying ever stop?

Regards Jo x

Hi Jo, the same happend to me, I was also worried, then it started oozing puss, had a bad infection as a stitch was left in for over a year!

Good luck, Teresa x

Hi there
sorry to read about your concerns. I would say you are right to be concerned + to be getting checked out asap. I’m sure it’s nthing but the only way to know for sure is to insist on a punch biopsy of the area. I think skin mets are more common in triple neg ladies but still very rare nevertheless, so try nt to panic.
My skin mets started within weeks if my last tax chemo + my surgical team kept fobbing me off. Weeks went by + they spread extensively. Initially it all started with a reddish patch (don’t panic!) by my mx scar but within a week or so, raised nodules started to appear. Really hard + strange looking like insect bites.
Don’t let the docs fob u off if the redness persists + you are still worried. Maybe try some anti b’s to rule out a skin infection before pushing for the biopsy.
Best of luck

it was only reading tinas posts that made me get my red areas checked mine was recurrence whilst on chemo but didnt look how you describe yours so dont let me panic you but do get biopsy if you remain concerned but it could be a number of reasons and may be sorted easily good luck take care x

Hi Jo,

I agree with the others that you’re best to get it checked out as with any change.

I had a similar problem a few months after surgery. A raised red area like dry skin that was tender but quite hard to the touch. Like Teresa it turned out to be a stitch which had worked it’s way to the surface. Eventually the redness turned into a little black head which the nurse was able to remove with tweezers. Very frightening at the time and a bit yucky but boy was I relieved. Hope yours turns out to be simple too.

I am not making this up…honest…but I had an iternal stitch that came to the surface about 12 YEARS after my first op!

Hi Jo, Nothing to add. but you are obviously worried and the only way to stop the worry is to have it checked out. Hopefully it is NOTHING. But if it is, it would be better to get it sorted sooner than later. I hope you get the all clear though. Hugs, Val

Thanks girls for your comments. BN got quick appointmnet to see consultant and he said he is not concerned. Little dressing put over the top of spot to see if this stops my bra rubbing against it.I will continue to monitor it though as it remains and I still dont have any answers what it could be. Thanks for your support.

Hi I’m tn to had mx chemo rads I got a red rash and my surgeon told me was the healing phase never heard of it then I got another red patch on my side had bo but it turned out to be inflammation soon settled down just kp a eye on it go back if y not happy tc laura

Hi

Just thought i would post some good news. Got results of biopsy which was taken fron red spot next to scar line, worried sick it was skin mets as it wasnt going away and was getting bigger. Results back and all is clear. Results showed just inflammation. So if there is anyone out there worried about little red spots next to their scar line following Mastectomy it doesnt always mean bad news.

Jox

That is brillant news jo I’m so pleased for you.
Stay well

That’s great news jo. I thought you had posted before about this as well - and that I had replied. Beginning to think maybe I just thought it LOL. I did have the same symptoms as yourself but was not so luck. But it is good for others to know that it doesn’t always mean bad news, but is important to get it checked.

I am also having difficulty trying to find out what skin mets look like. I have been to my doc and though my little “spot” doesn’t look like what the doc had in her book, I can’t dismiss it either from some of the descriptions. I hate this wretched worry, and nasty little unexplained spots.

And do they tend to hurt or sting?

I see my onc next week so have a chance to get his take on it.
