Hi all

I just wanted to add that if anyone is unable to attend the discussions and would like to post answers to the questions we will ask in the focus groups here, please let me know and I will post some of the questions up.

Thanks

Vicky

Hi Vicky,

I would be interested in hearing what questions and answers are being put forward at these discussions. I had a mastectomy and ld flap reconstruction 3 weeks ago and while I’m doing very well I don’t think I am going to be up to travel to London to join in the discussions! I have found many of your publications invaluable but I do have one suggestion for a publication that I wished had been available. One aimed at teenage children of an affected mother, in my case there is no father around to explain the details.

Of course any such publication would require the teenagers to actually read it! That’s another problem. I just wished there was something that could explain to them what they could expect when I came back from hospital and how they could help in practical terms…teenagers don’t want to listen to their mother even in this situation.

What do you think?

If I can help at all I would be happy to.

Anyway many thanks to all you lovely ladies at BCC who do a wonderful job. We are doing an end of term ballet show here on Sunday and monies raised will make it into your coffer, shared with the Guildford Fountain Centre, as a big thank you so please pray that the rain holds off that day!

kind regards

Thanks Hope - that’s great to hear, and thanks also for the very useful feedback.

We completely understand that not everyone will be able to travel to the focus groups, and it would be great to hear your comments here. We really just want to know what you think works well and what you think currently isn’t working so well or could be improved (among our current publications). If any one would prefer to email me privately with feedback, my email address is <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%76%69%63%6b%79%2e%6c%61%6e%65%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%76%69%63%6b%79%2e%6c%61%6e%65%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>

Thanks

Vicky

I also am unable to come to the focus group. I think some of your publications very good…for example the one about understanding your pathology report. I would like to see more ‘minority interest’ leaflets. I have been asking about a triple negative leaflet for about 4 years now and nothing has happened. My other personal request is for a leaflet, or revamped secondary breast cancer information, about the impact of incurable regional recurrences.

I am sure there are other ares of specialist interest that people would like to suggest.

Hope the focus groups go well.

best wishes

Jane

Thanks for your feedback Jane, I’ll be sure to pass it on.

Does anyone else have any comments on what we could improve - I don’t necessarily mean subject matter, but it could be the tone or pictures used, or the layout of the information we publish? Similarly is there anything that forum users think we are doing well and would want to make sure stays?

Thanks everyone for your help

Vicky

Please see thread about Vita. I really dislike this publication with its ghastly stereotypes about breast cancer being the best thing since sliced bread. I found this issue featuring some womewn with secondary bc offensive in its artificial cheeriness.

Having just spent 4 nights in a hospice with very sick women the contrast between represntation and reality in some of your publications is enormous.

Jane

I’d prefer some pictures of real women with reconstructions to the drawings in your publication. Having said that, I don’t like the Cancer Backup one. All the docs like it though, because they think it tells things as they are, and puts a lot of women off having reconstructions.

Things have progressed a bit so I’d like some recent work
