what happens 2nd time around?

to keep my story short dx last year aged 35, grade 3, had WLE, chemo radio, had hysterectomy and ovaries removed, no longer need tamoxifen as was only slightly pr+, anyway had a biopsy for another lump same side yesterday, was told the usual “it could be a cyst” ,
anyway i was just wondering if anyone knows how they treat it 2nd time around

if it’s a new primary they look at the grade, size etc as a different event from the previous one and treat it accordingly. If it’s a recurrence of previous cancer, they would usually go down the mastectomy route if you had a lumpectomy last time

Mole

Hi annamarie,

Agree with Mole - much will depend on what they find. I had another lump in same breast after 5 years. The first time round chemo completely shrunk so just had rads then. But 2nd time had mastectomy and it was a new tumour, not recurrence of old one. My surgeon felt it was better not to touch the lymph nodes (no sign of swollen ones) because he felt the risk of lymphodema was too high as I had rads the first time round. I actually didnt have chemo following that and unfortunately had recurrence 6 months later in the skin. Hope it turns out to ‘just be a cyst’.
