hi liz
in the first year following mx/chemo etc I had a check up at 3 months, then another 6 months later then annually around the time of the mx, they checked me over manually, and did mammo of ‘good’ breast and that went on for me since 1997! I think you get regular mammos for x ammount of years then when (if not already) you are 50 seems that you get put on the ‘regular’ screening programme ??? I think thats how it goes? love JX
I was told a yearly mammo throughout the 5 year remission period, then in my case I would pass into the screening programme as I turned 50 last month. My clinic also did not see year 4 ladies last year for a follow up with a Consultant as their stats have shown them it isn’t always necessary unless the patient has a problem. I will see someone after my mammo in the autumn as I will hopefully be discharged from remission.
Hi Elizabethtracey.
I have annual mammograms for 5 years and see the oncologist every 12 months. I am 3 years on since diagnosis.
Don’t know if you are planning to have a reconstruction. If so you will probably have a full body CT scan and bone scan prior to surgery.
I think it depends on your age as to when you are seen in the clinic. Younger ladies seem to be on 6 month appointments.
Well done for getting through your treatment. Upwards and onwards for you now.

we get annual mammo for 10 years or at least to age 50 (if you havent had a double MX) and clinical exam for 5 years.
i was 37 at first diagnosis so would get annual mammo for 13 years… subsequently got a second primary at 40 and found to carry brca 2 so now get annual mammo & clinical exam and annual mri… but planning to have double mastectomy next year so would have clinical exam only for 5 years following that… although i think as clinical exam is less reliable they may stop this sooner than 5 years in the future… i was discharged by my onc before id even finished chemo and have always been followed up by my breast surgeon.
years ago you had 3 monthly appts for a couple of years then 6 monthly for a few more years before going to annual or every 2 years like it is now.
