I am a 50 year old recently diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ducal cancer. I had lump removed on Thursday and nodes checked and results are negative. But what next ? Have appointment in two weeks and am feeling apprehensive . Everybody says take one day at a time but now thinking ahead as to be expected. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Coxy,
It’s quite usual to feel as you do, we’ve all been there, but the treatment plan can’t be finalised until the results are back from surgery - so it’s the apprehensive waiting game, I’m afraid ?
Do you know if your bc is er+ (oestrogen positive)?, as hormone treatment would be likely if so. Similarly, if it’s her2 positive, then that affects the plan. Radiotherapy is likely to be on the cards, as that is usual post lumpectomy.
Chemo may or may not be recommended depending on the results, but obviously, you’d be aware of that.
As ever, it’s the wait that is hard to handle, it generally feels better once all’s confirmed & you know where you are with it all & can plan ahead.

Hi Coxy, just wanted to acknowledge your post and say hi. The initial waiting is horrendous sometimes and our minds can wander and worry. As the previous post said, they need the results to get a plan for the treatment, I’ve had the whole shebang! surgery, chemo, radio and now hormones…everything will fall into place soon for you and when it does there is a section of every type of treatment on here where you can find support from others going through it.
Take care of yourself.
