What’s ‘normal’ for a reconstructed breast?

Hello
I had a mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction of my right breast in 2016 but I’ve noticed recently that it’s changing shape. There are some hard areas/possible lumps under the skin in the breast but also starting to spread toward the middle of my chest, and also some changes to the skin (dimpling/puckering). Is this something I should get checked or is it common for changes to happen over time?
I do go to the gym so could the changes be caused by muscle growth??
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Thank you xx

Hi Rachel3112,

Thank you for your post.

Changes to the breast can happen over time following DIEP reconstruction for a number of reasons. However, this would not normally be as a result of muscle growth.

As we’re not able to say for certain what has caused the changes you describe, we would suggest you make an appointment with your GP so that they can assess you in person. They will be able to refer you back to your treatment team if necessary.
