Hi,
I have just been given my first pack of nolvadex-d, after talking the onc into prescribing them. It says you can take them am, pm or split it in 2. Just wondering when you would advise and how you are getting on with it. Not starting it till next week as I have a small op on Monday and don’t need any complications
Thanks for your help
Lily
Hi Lily,
I take mine at night, just before going to bed. It was suggested to me I should take them then so that I am less bothered with hot flushes etc. Hot flushes are few and far between, although for the first few weeks they were irritating, then I seemed to settle down with it. I have virtually no side effects with it and am getting on fine with it. I’ve been on it over 2 months now.
All the best to you with it.

Hi
Whats the difference between Novaldex and tamoxifen?
Sukes
Hi,
thanks so much Sue, I do like at least start these things positively!!! Sukes it is a particular brand of tamoxifen that has the same amount of tamoxifen citrate but the bulk and coating are different, which is supposed to give far fewer hot flushes and less chance of clots I believe. It costs more of course. It probably does not affect everyone the same way, but I have read a lot on here about how the effects can get worse for some people when the chemist switches manufacturers of tamoxifen. They cannot do this if prescribed nolvadex - d. If the onc prescribes it first , the GP has to just follow on with it, which is why I made a bit of a fuss at the start as I always react to tablets and changes.
Hope you are both ok

Hi Lily
I take mine in the morning, I have taken it since July, I have very few side effects, I have a few hot flushes and wake up abit at night and am very tired, but I am also now back at work. Breast nurse said after having 15 months of treatment, 8 chemo, 3 ops and rads it understandable that I am tired. Someone suggested I take it at night and I might try that to see if I can sleep better and cut the flushes too, but they really not too much of a problem.
Let us know how you get on,
Good luck with op and tamoxifen
Dawn X,
Hi, thanks, I took my first one tonight, fingers crossed

Fingers crossed for you Lily - but it will take you a few weeks to settle to it so don’t be surprised if you have the duvet off/on/off/on for a few nights!
Hi,
Thanks, nothing so far but fingers still firmly crossed!
Lily
Going well then Lily - here’s hoping the next few weeks are as easy for you. x
Hi,
I took number 4 tonight. I am not sure when any side effects are likely to start but the onc told me it is 3 weeks before the protective effect starts working. I read about weight loss - don’t get my hopes up, that would be a dream side effect!!
Thanks for posting and good luck

Tamoxifen is the generic name - like asprin.
I asked my onc for Nolvodex D when I was prescribed it, as it seemed the side effects were less for those on it rather than the generic brands.
I should add that I was on it for 2 years then switched to Aromasin as I am now post-menopause.
