What to expect after endocrine therapy?

Hello! I am 43 y/o and just getting off anastrazole and zoladex after 8 long years. I’ve really struggled throughout endocrine therapy with anxiety and depression which at one point had mostly resolved. But the last year was brutal and I hit a severe low so decided it was time to be done. For those who have come off endocrine therapy, I would love to know your experience and how long it took you to start feeling better? Thank you!!

Hi - you did incredibly well to manage 8 years! I’m 63 and was on Anastrazole for 15 months before the side-effects were taking over my life - the joint pain, the brain fog, the hot flushes etc., I felt more like 83!! In April my Breast Surgeon agreed I could take a four month break from it and within 6 weeks I was feeling 80% back to ‘normal’ - it was marvellous. The difference between the cancer returning was only 2% if I continue with Anastrozole for another four years so I have to weigh-up the benefits of going back on it or not.

Hopefully you will start to feel much better very soon. Mx

Thank you so much for your response. It’s nice to connect with others with shared experiences.

I had all of the above which ended up resolving after a couple years. But towards the end, had a really rough time with mental health - anxiety and depression. Been off anastrazole for about 6 weeks now and feeling better but not 100%. Also waiting for the effects of zoladex to wear off and allow my body some return of hormones as a 43 year old woman. Hoping I continue to climb out of this hole.
