What to expect at the breast clinic?

What happens?
Im 26 and found a lump in my left breast my dads currently having chemo and I haven’t told him I’m going to the breast clinic as he doesn’t need the stress if it if turns out to be nothing, I’m going with my partner but he doesn’t drive, is there anything they can do at the clinic that could stop you driving home?

When do you get results etc? Thank you.

Hi Cat, I’m sorry you have this worry especially on top of your dad having treatment.

Firstly if they can’t dismiss your lump as being harmless they will likely do a biopsy, this can leave you a little tender but it won’t prevent you from driving home.

The general process at breast clinics is physical examination, mammogram, Ultrasound and then if needed a biopsy. I wouldn’t imagine due to your age they would do a mammogram as the younger we are the denser our breast tissue is and often any lumps won’t show up.

At 26 breast cancer is the least likely thing that your lump will be but not impossible, we do have ladies here in their 20’s going through treatment although thankfully it’s a rare occurrence.

Results take around a week but may be a little longer, if you do have a biopsy make sure you get a definite date to return as this helps cut down on the anxiety of waiting when you know what is happening.

All the best and please let us know how you get on Xx

Thank you.
I know, it’s hard not talking to my dad about it but I’m frightened the worry and stress will knock him back, and my mams staying to look after him so don’t have anyone to drive me so was worried that a biopsy could mean I couldn’t drive.
My dad was on high dose of morphine when he had his biopsies and he needed a CT assisted one into his chest so he couldn’t drive, so wasn’t sure with breast ones!
