Hi I was wondering if there is a link with what type of contraceptive pill you were on. I cant remember the name but no that it was supposed to help with my acne.
Also has anyone else had an abortion? I had one 10 years ago that I had to take 2 pills for I was only 16 at the time. I have since read that there could be a link to bc.
I was on the pill for most of my adult life, with only breaks for pregnancy. The main one I was on was Femodeen and it is a “full blown” one as opposed to the mini pill. Obviously, I had to stop taking it once diagnosed and I was er/pr positive. Haven’t had an abortion though did once take the morning after pill, but my tumour would have been there but undetected at that point.
I’ve been on Eugynon 30 when I was 16/17 and Mercilon when I was 29 to 32. I’ve also had the morning after pill on two occasions. Don’t know if these contributed to bc
hi yes have had the morning after pill too once I forgot about that .I must stress that have only had 2 partners. Am just really onvinced that this cancer has been brought upon by something in my daily lifestyle.
I remember when I was first dxd and was so upset - but both my breast consultant and bcn were adamant that there was nothing that I did wrong - as my consultant said - if it was that easy to pinpoint why anyone gets bc, it would have been eradicated by now.
Thank you for your comments.I really have no one to speak too about my thoughts etc hence why it has taken me 2 years to start writing on these boards. What you are saying does make sense . I definatley think that younger women need to be more breast aware and gps should take these cases more seriously.
Yes GPs should - I really believe that most women know their bodies well - when I found my lump, it was because my breast hurt, yet they say BC doesn’t hurt. I was referred to a breast clinic on a non-urgent basis, just because I was “only” 38. My partner (now my husband) insisted I went privately to have the initial tests done as his first wife had died from bc some years earlier - she was misdiagnosed with her secondaries for 6 months because she was told she had rheumatism - he feels she could still be here if they had been more aware/taken her more seriously. If I hadn’t gone privately, I wouldn’t have been seen for weeks. Even my breast consultant, who is absolutely lovely and is who is who I see either privately or on the NHS, said I wasn’t worrying him because I was young. But you just know something’s not right and they should listen to you. I’m now having my other breast removed privately in the new year as a preventative measure - but I know damn well there’s something going on there that’s not right. I’ll be amazed if I’m wrong.
Everyone should be listened to and from what I’ve read recently, GPs need more training in bc - I know more than my GP does and he treated my husband’s first wife!
i am 28 and i was on the pill yasmin for 10 yrs and took morning after pill once…i asked docs if any link to bc, they say no. i really think there is a link between the pill and bc because i have been told most young women (im 28) have oestrogen sensitive cancer, isnt the pill oestrogen based? if so how can they deny a link. i went to doc in march and was sent away twice without a referral, by the time iwent back 6 wks ago, the lump was very large and i hade been taking my pill all those months! my lump also hurt, sharp stabbing pains, i was also told bc doesnt hurt.
when they did a mastectomy 4 wks ago the lump was 16mm and there were 4 other areas in my breast! and it had spread to my under arm lymph nodes. docs need to take young women more seriously when it comes to breast lumps. i want to try to raise awareness and am in the process of trying to sort out how i can do this.
I was on microgynon 80 (the combined pill- oestrogen/pr) for ten years- had two ectopics then breast cancer- who knows if there is a link, maybe we will one day.
I was on femulen, the mini-pill for 8 months, and stopped it 2 months before I got bc, and I am convinced that it hastenend my ER+ and PR+ cancer. I didn’t want to go on the pill but was talked out of a steralisation at 39 by a very forceful doctor, I regret not sticking up for myself now, as who knows! I was on microgynon 30, the full pill, from 17 to 23. I had a coil for 3 years too.
Eugynon 30 from age 24 for about 6/7 years. Nothing else. Diagnosed aged 42. But my mum, her twin sister, their older sister and cousin have all had it so it looks very much like a family thing - they were aged 68, 55, 75 and about 72 though.
