would like to hear what these dressings are please ladies , i may not need them but would rather be armed and ready if i do , thank you xxx
I was given some Geliperm dressings which are absolutely brilliant. You keep them in the fridge and are very soothing.
Don’t buy too much in advance as you may a) find that like me you are given them by the staff or b) you may be able to get them on prescription.
Nymeria
I agree with Nymeria - the hospital will probably give them to you.
Geliperm are good but so too are Mepilex. My hospital gave me four boxes of Mepilex (five in each box). I got a burn where the supra clavicular nodes were zapped. Didn’t happen until near the end of my rads (finished Wed 6th July) so I am covered for the three weeks or so post rads when the effects continue. As the burn site gets smaller and smaller I cut the dressings to size so I’m going to have some left over.
Elizabethtracey - I believe they are quite expensive could you not go back to the hospital for them.
Diana
Mepilex dressings are great - I got through boxes of the stuff and was a veritable patchwork of dressings by the end.
Same here Trish im hoping my rads team may give me some just incase the underneath of my boob is looking a bit concerning its sore but I think being my last one tomorrow its going to get worse over the next 2 weeks
mekelar definitely ask for dressings now to stop it getting any worse.
hi
I had really bad burning following my booster reads and was given a cooling gel called nu-gel, plus mepilex dressings.I was given a supply from the hospital but not sufficient, so got further supplies from the nurse at my health centre. She also checked my skin following the treatment to save me a 50 mile round trip to the hospital.
I was really sore and in pain so the dressings were real bliss.I also tried to leave the area treated open to the air as much as possible-had to keep the curtains drawn a lot !!

hi, once again you all come to my rescue,
thank you so much for giving me the names of a few things I can ask my gp about,
I did pay the emergency doctor a call, who prescribed cream called fucibet, I am applying that tonight and in the morning,
but depending on how it is tomorrow may well still contact my gp and also the rads team at the hospital,
once again thanks everyone, and best wishes to you love Liz xxx
My neighbours must think I’ve gone into hibernation as I have my shutters half closed most of the time as I wander round topless. Any time I am dressed and have a hot flush (aka power surge) I strip off and apply aloe vera gel. Bit sore at present but not enough to warrant paracetamol.
Good luck Liz hope you feel more comfortable soon.
I had something called geliperm I think which I kept in the fridge and they were so nice and cool x
Hi,
sorry I answered your other thread with more detail. Ask for actiform cool, amazingly effective and the relief is instant and lasts. They are made for rads and leg ulcers as promote healing too.
Good luck
Lily
hi Lily,
thanks for that I will ask for the dressings as we speak!!, best wishes to you Liz xx
Hello
Hope this information will be useful. I finished radiotherapy last week at St James Leeds and was provided with a Leeds NHS Trust Skin After Radiotherapy Booklet 2.
It suggests Meplilex dressing and mepitac dressing as these are non adhesive and/or silicone based.
My skin flared up two days later on a Friday.
I tried to buy this from number of pharmacists as I knew that I would not be able to get an immmediate appointment with my GP and would be waiting until Monday at the earliest.None had it in stock and one said it was £14 a strip and that I would need to buy a box containing multple dressings.
I contacted the radiotherapy department and spoke to a nurse who said that she would provide some dressings. My skin was still in tact so she gave me Actiform Cool dressings 10 x 10cm to prevent any deterioration.
This is a gel dressing for burns. When applied it takes the heat out of the burn and soothes the skin. Because of the shape of the breast it does not adhere well and so I have applied on different parts of the breast including the area underneath whilst lying down. I have needed to hold in place. It falls off whilst sleeping. During the day I have been able to secure a patch in place on the nipple area with my bra but the patches become creased or fall off anywhere there is movement e.g . around the armpit.
I have also applied a cold compress using frozen peas and this has relieved the itchiness. This was not recommended by any medical practioner.
My skin is steadily improving and I can at least wear a bra for part of the day when I go out.
Because the patches fall offend become creased I have run out before I could get my prescription from the GP so I have restocked via Amazon Prime.
