when do you have a mammogram>

I had mascectomy in December 06 and now finished herceptin in July. When do you have a mammogram. Not too bothered as had a mammogram on October 18th and it was fine 2 weeks later on 3rd November found bif 4.5 cm lump. It’s just that I thought it would be before now love Eileen

I’ve just had my yearly mammogram for the offending breast. They told me its 2 years for the other! dont know if that helps!

I have mammograms every 18 months. I was dx Feb 07, and had a mammogram last month.

I had a WLE a couple of months ago for DCIS and the doctor told me I will get a mammogram in 2 years time!!

In Derbyshire they do you every year for 10 years after treatment for BC.

I was dx June 07 and had my 1st year mammo July this year, and they did both breasts. Was recalled for Ultrasound on the ‘good breast’. Boy was I sick about that but think they were being cautious. Good ending though, it was not cancer just thick breast tissue.

Funny how areas vary with the dates of these mammo’s.

Hi, I’m Herts/Essex borders, and have annual mammograms after mx 3 years ago. Seems to vary a lot from area to area.

In Southampton if you had a WLE then you have a yearly mammogram if you have a mastecomy its every 2 years. Saying that I was dx May 2007, had mastectomy October 2007 and have been told I’m due for a mammogram November 2009 so I am going to query the date.

In France, mamo every 12 months, blood tests and scan (echo) on breasts, underarm nodes both sides , liver and abdoman.

I live in Cornwall but am treated at Derriford Hospital in Devon. I had a WLE and total axillary removal and queried why only a mammo every 2 yrs. especially as my 2 cm tumour was not palpable, even by my GP, so am concerned if it comes back, how will I know if I can’t feel a lump? Surgeon said reason for 2 yrly mammos is because of dangers of too much radiation…hubby and I think it is due to “resources”. However, when I got a long ropey lump on the top half of my breast and rang my bc nurse, she got me an appt next day with the surgeon, who ordered a mammo and ultrasound. Turned out to be Mondor’s disease, which surgeon said he had never seen in a patient with bc, but had otherwise. He had all the radiologists and radiographers come in to have a look and a feel as it is quite rare.

I would certainly feel happier with an annual mammo, but when I rang the Nuffield for a private mammo they said as I had already had bc, I would need an ultrasound and mammo, cost of £450. How come they weren’t worried about radiation effects? I didn’t bother going to them and guess will just have to take my chances.

Hi Lizziecee, i know things are different in France but is there any where else you could ask for the price of a mamo??? i think that price is crazy. Before i had my healthcare sorted here i had an xray and i had to pay for it and claim it back. The price was only about 60 euros! can you shop around for a better price?

I have annual mammos for life.Was dx Oct 2006 had mammo Nov 2007 next one Nov 5th[rockets]]this year.I could use nhs but have asked to go privately because you see the surgeon and get the results in one hour and I am not good with waiting.The cost of mammo plus consultation is £160 at the local Nuffield Hospital.Eileen I would have expected you to have had one before now-why not ring them?Love Vxx

Please, whoever you are & time is passing - chase them up.

I was told I would have mammogram in April this year (one year after surgery) but heard nothing. Contacted BCC nurse in August - seems a letter was sent requesting same in January but nothing done with it. Made me feel really special!!! Finally ‘done’ in September - all good so far.

Just don’t wait - don’t be scared to make a fuss.

Hello Everyone,

I live in Lincoln. I was diagnosed about a year ago. Haven’t got a clue when I will be having mammogram on my one remaining breast. The subject has never been mentioned. However I intend to ring this week to find out.

If I don’t ring them they sure as hell won’t ring me!
