when does hair grow back after or during FEC

Hi everyone
My hair fell out on day 11 of 1st FEC. Have just had 4th Fec and have noticed a tiny tiny little tuft of hair has grown, and if I tug it, it doesnt come out, so see this as positive.
I assumed that my hair wouldnt grow back until chemo had stopped, but am now wondering if maybe it comes back toward end of treatment. Would like to know other peoples experience of this and if your hair was different when it grew back. I was a brunette before this, but the stubble on my head is now white.
Regards
Jane

Hi Jane, had my last FEC in August 09 (6/6) and noticed my hair was already returning - as were brows lashes etc. I had very straight hair before chemo and it is now very very curly. It also came through grey/white all over. I couldnt wait the recommended 6 months to colour it so I found a veggie dye called Naturtint and it worked a treat. Have just gone back to using standard amonia dye and its fine. Just getting used to the curly look - tried to blow dry the curl out but am now going with it and gelling it to within an inch of its life. I have heard that your hair can revert to what nature gave you about a year after chemo so will have to wait and see. It is at least growing like wildfire so shouldn’t be too long before I can choose how to have it rather than just putting up with how it is! Hope this helps and standby for rapid regrowth ! All the best xDebbiex

Hi Jane
I also noticed hair coming back after FEC number 4. Its very wiry and sticks straight up but is a similar colour to what it was. I still lost a little with each of the last chemos, so was losing straight hair and gaining the wiry stuff at the same time.
I’m only 6 weeks post chemo6, so its still very short (a bit like a coconut!!) but very welcome and much loved.
I agree, you can look forward now to that hair coming back - its a lovely symbol of recovery

Hello. My hair started to come back - very slowly - after chemo No. 5. I had 3 x FEC and then 3 x taxotere.

It came back curly at first but now - two and a half years later - it’s almost straight again.
Good luck everyone

Hi,

Mine all came out after FEC number 2, well most and we shaved the rest cos it hurt so much. Then it’s kind of been growing a little since. I have like a fluffy layer, very fine but with a light behind me it looks like I have a halo! It is very very slow growth and not great coverage but it is something. Encouraged by the comments of others saying there’s has grown nicely afterwards. Got FEC number 4 on Monday and hoping my August I will have a fair covering as I’m a bridesmaid and could do without wearing a wig for it.

Some of mine never fell out, but most did so it got shaved just before FEC #2. I re-shaved it just after Tax #1 - which was just under 3 weeks ago) and I now have about 3mm growth. I still have balder patches so not all of the areas which fell out are regrowing yet, but I have reasonable all over cover and it is now all one length, so I will just continue letting it grow out from here.

Hi there - my hair really started falling out just before my 2nd Fec. I had a break after FEC 4 for surgery so my hair began coming back again quite quickly (and grey!) but fell out again when I had another 2 FEC after that. It took a while to get going again after the 2nd lot of treatments but is now looking quite cool at about 3/4 inch long. I have used the Naturtint dye too to get rid of the grey and can’t wait to see how it grows - my hair was quite thick and curly beforehand. xx

Thank you all very much for your replies, they are very much appreciated. I will have a look at this Nuturtint. I haave told my family that if my hair growns back grey, its staying that way and they just look at me and roll their eyes, as they know there is no way I’m going to live with grey hair just yet (I’m a very young 49).
Cheers
Jane
