When does treatment start

I will be having a lumpsectomy the 7th July and would like to know how long is it before you start radiotherapy and the tablets

Hi 2209.

Thanks for posting about what happens after your upcoming surgery.

Radiotherapy after surgery for breast cancer usually starts 4-8 weeks later, but it can be delayed by a number of reasons. Some women need further surgery to reduce the risk of cancer cells being left behind after their lumpectomy and other women occasionally develop infections or a build-up of fluid which can push their radiotherapy back.

If you mean hormonal therapy when you mention the tablets, for women who are only having radiotherapy, this can usually be started around the same time as the radiotherapy.

There may be other treatments that are recommended to you once all the information is back after your surgery results and as confirmed by the multidisciplinary team
