when its time to remove Hickman line....

Hi everyone,
Please can any of you gals who have come to the end of Herceptin /chemo and no longer require the line in, tell me what the experience of having it removed is like compared to having it put in?

just bumping this up, any experiences please?

Hi violetta,

I have had 3 hickman lines in. The last one was in 2000 so procedures may have changed, and hospitals will differ. Mine each time were removed by a doctor on the ward. Just a couple of local anaesthetic injections around the site and the make a small incision to get to it, and maybe one or two stitches afterwards. The whole procedure was quite painless.

Thanks for that Dawn,
please could you tell me if you felt the pushing/pulling and wiggling like when it goes in?
cheers
kay.

Now you are testing my chemo brained memory!! I remember being aware but not at all unpleasant.

dawn

I had a line in for approx 6 months and as Dawn said it is painless when they take it out and no you don’t feel any pulling and tugging

Fran

Thanks Fran.
