I have completed chemotherapy and will be finishing radiotherapy next Weds 14rh Jan. I am slightly confused at when Herceptin should be started as I am HER2. Can anyone advise please ?
Think it is different at each hospital, I started herceptin with my last 3 chemo’s, I will be having a break from it when radiotherapy starts, (in two weeks) they said this was because I was having radiotherapy to the left breast and its potential problems it could have on the heart with the effects herceptin could have.
Hope that hasn’t made it more confusing!
I don’t know if this helps but I finished my rads in June (06) then started Herceptin in Aug. (06).

I started Herceptin the day before I finished rads. I think it needs to be within 6 months of finishing chemo, but I’m not certain.

I have just started Herceptin this week, and asked onc what the time length to start it was and she said within 6 weeks of finishing rads, mine fell just inside of this time presumable delayed slightly because of christmas. I dont know if this is common place everywhere or just in my area.

I finished chemo 1 Nov 07 (4 each of FEC and Taxotere) had 15 rads (finished end Jan 08) and started Herceptin in March 08. Only two more Herceptins to go now!

Hi All,
Thank you for all of your replies - this has really helped ease my mind. I was worred that my treatment for Hercpetin had been delayed as I have also been asked to take part in the ALLTO study. I am due to see my oncologist tomorrow morning as I saw him on Friday and he was concerned that I had not started taking Herceptin yet or started the study.I think this is going to get sorted out tomorrow.
I have had 4 FEC to begin with and now started both Herceptin and Taxotere this week, I’ve still not had surgery and have long way to go yet, I’m just at the beginning and have a long way to go yet.
