When to start tamoxifen

Hello

I’m post surgery and my radiotherapy starts on 12th Aug. I now have my prescription for tamoxifen. My Oncologist didn’t suggest a start date. Should I start the meds just now or wait till after radiotherapy? My preference would be to wait till after radiotherapy and to get over that stage, then start hormone therapy. Any thoughts on this? Thank you.

Hello egor_dubh,

Thanks for posting.

It’s good to hear you have a plan for starting radiotherapy and have got your prescription for tamoxifen.

We’d suggest that you speak with your breast care nurse or treatment team to ask if they would advise a time for you to start taking the tamoxifen.

Many people do have the choice of starting the hormone therapy during or after radiotherapy and you can let them know that your preference is to wait until you have finished your radiotherapy as you feel you will cope better with each treatment.
