When zometa infusion is stopped

Hi

Had ER + BC 3 years ago

On exemestane & zoladex.
Just had my 7th & final zometa infusion.

Now that my zometa is stopped is there any guideline that suggests having a dexa scan at any point?? I asked the nurse but she had no idea!!

Thanks

I’m due to have my final zometa infusion in two weeks. At my previous infusion I talked to the nurse about what happens after the last one. She said I’d have an appointment to discuss what might happen going forward with regards to bone health. But I’ve also discussed it with my doctor previously who arranged for a DEXA scan two years ago and will do that again next year. Your doctor can refer you for a scan. Hope all goes well.

As far as I know dexa scans are usually done every three to five years

Hi @campervan,
I think it’s different around the country but if they don’t offer a dexa scan and u feel u want one, just ask your GP to refer u for one. My situation is slightly more complicated because I already had osteoporosis before BC diagnosis! (I’m 57). Then a year after my treatments finished, I fell and broke my pubic rami (part of the pelvis)! I still had to fight to get a dexa scan-I just wanted to know how much my bones had deteriorated!! They had deteriorated slightly so at least I’m not so worried now about falling over again-it was such a shock as I’ve never broken a bone before!
Hope this helps xxx
