Which plastic surgeon for DIEP reconstruction?

Hi, Just registered on the forum today as I was wondering if there is anyone who has had a DIEP flap following mastectomy. If so, how was it and where did they have it done? I was diagnosed with DCIS in June and had a lumpectomy. Unfortunately, they didn’t manage to get all of it and I am now due to have a mastectomy followed by immediate reconstruction (DIEP free flap) on the NHS. Luckily I can go privately with my husband’s medical insurance (NHS wait time for plastic surgeon is 6 months…), so am now looking to have it done asap. Just wondering if anyone could advise on who to go with and where. I live a few miles west of London. Any recommendations would be really appreciated! Thanks.

I had a plastic surgeon but mine does not do private work, my nipple had to come off and the original surgeon asked the plastic surgeon what they would advise and the plastic surgeon ended up doing the whole thing. I am delighted with the result and they will reconstruct a nipple if i want later on.

I would check out the Broomfield hospital in Chelmsford, Essex you will be spoilt for choice! They have a specialist burns and plastic surgery site.

I did not have this chap Mr. **** but I have met several women that have and they all rave about him. He  does private work.

Highly recommend Mr *** at the Marsden.
He does over 100 a year so you will be in safe hands!

I would recommend **** at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. He’s the man other plastic surgeons call in to correct their problems after failed DIEP recons. Very highly regarded.

I have just seen this post and I would like to be recommended a surgeon in the North West Manchester area x

I can recommend Miss ***** NHS - at Guys and St Thomas’s London as well as Private Practice. I had mastectomy and DIEP flap in July and pleased with the professional care given. Good luck!

Hi All

I have removed the names of the surgeons you have all shared as naming professionals is not allowed, even though it is all good

Thanks for all your recommendations. Since posting I have met a lovely plastic surgeon and breast surgeon at Charing Cross. Feel I can trust both of them as they all the time in the world to talk me through the procedure, explained everything clearly and answered all my questions. I’m seeing plastic surgeon again tomorrow and then will be booked in for surgery. Feels quite anxious about it now. I would love to know what your recovery was like. I have 3 kids and am just wondering how long I will be about of action. Husband working out how much time he will need to take off work and recruiting other mums to help out.
