White cell injection and pain

Hi

I ve been crying in pain in the middle of the night following injections for white cell increase - lower back pain - hospital warned me might get back pain and flu like symptoms but Im in agony and just wondered what others might have had for the pain as I am seeing GP tomorrow morning (pre arranged to do with fit notes for work) and want to beg for something!

Best

Hi Sarah,

This doesn’t sound right.  I know it can make you feel a bit achey/fluey but not so that you’re in agony.  Is this the first time you’ve had the injection and that this has happened or does it happen each time?  Definitely a good idea seeing your GP tomorrow

xx

Hi Jets, I had that too, was excruciating and terrifying, my BCN checked with my onc and she said it was normal and could affect people in that way. My GP prescribed me strong pain relief which definitely helped x

Hi - it’s thx for response - it’s flared after second injection - done third today and still in pain but dulled it a bit with ibrofen and Paracetamol- I’ve got five days worth of injections - I actually found another thread from 2014 where others had had similar reaction but don’t think lots get it so severe - glad to be seeing GP . Had a rough ride first chemo - sick blood transfusion and now this … Not sure I’ll be able to stick another 5 if the pain stay the same x

My mum had some discomfort with the gcsf but not as bad as you have. However my friends mum had bc over a year ago and she said her mum couldn’t get out of bed with joint pain when having gcsf. They apparently gave her a lower dose? Not sure if thats something they still do but may be an option.
Xx

Hi - thx again xx - alternating ibrofen taken an edge off it but still bad so will get gp to sort x agree it’s a sign Prob that the white cells are being made which hopefully will help me heading yp chemo two x

Just as an update in case anyone else suffering - after continuing with probs oncology told me to stop injections after 4 : they think that will have been enough for me. After 24 hours without feeling a lot better just a bit achey and yesterday a bit fluey ; nothing like the pain before. If I have to do this again I am goong to ask for v strong painkillers and sleeping tablets - I can’t describe how bad the pain was and wanted to thank u ladies for ur support xx

Beware of pain meds. I know of someone who received heavy antibiotics instead. I had the shots but not such pain.
Best wishes.
