When I found the ‘lump’ I had so much going on in my family I said nothing for 18 months. I only told my family because it was now less complicated. But since then my life has been taken over. I feel that my home is not mine anymore, my family are trying to cope. My washing is not mine anymore, it’s my sisters, my kitchen floor does not need washing her’s does. It makes me feel like I’m not here any more, I have become “CANCER”. I know they are trying to do their best, but it’s killing me. The day after I told my family I had cancer I found out I was going to be a Grandma, my grandson was born the day after my operation. 5 days post op I drove an 8 hours round trip to see him (he’s wonderful) I’m just about to start my chemo and my family don’t know how to face what I am going through. It’s hard enough for me without having to keep everyone else going!!
Hi
Bless your heart!! I think its time for a family conference, have you all sat and talked about your condition, if not I think you need to, its lovely that your family think so much of you but you need to be heard, it is obviously affecting you. Congratulations on being a grandma and good luck with your chemo.

I agree with Yvonne. They are a wonderful family trying to help you, but it will help you more if you let them know how you feel. Perhaps it would help if you set up a schedule for their helping…so you have some control. You could then regulate it so they came less often, which would give you a chance to get some LIGHT things done. Break it up among all of you – include yourself. We all do get very very tired on chemo – it comes in a flash. I am forced, for example, to actually pace myself! They are probably just trying to protect you.
The other side of this is that you feel like a cripple – and you are not. Perhaps in time you can get across to them ever so gently that you are more than the sum of your disease…you are yourself. I hope things get better and you are able to talk with them and share your feelings.

Hi ya,
Thanks for listening, since I last posted I have had a chat with the family and things are getting better. I started my chemo yesterday but don’t feel too bad yet! Just a bit weary but can’t sleep. I’m on the tact2 trails so I only have 3 more chemos to go now. I am also trying the cooling cap to see if I can keep some of my hair so we will have to wait and see how that goes. once again thanks to listening. Take care
Im so glad you got it sorted out. Good luck with your chemo and with the cap. Take care of yourself.
Yvonne xx
