Hi Awil,
How was it going out without a scarf or wig? I’m starting chemo on Friday and have just got back from looking at scarfs and bandannas, which I must admit was a little daunting.
Take care,
Zoe X
Hi Zoe , I must say that it is hard then u have months of hiding behind the bandannas but it was time for me to take it off … I started st home with hubby for a few weeks then with rest of family then left off Easter weekend completely then felt strange putting on so braved work and it’s ok now but I do miss my hair and still have a tear gone ft shoulder length to a Annie Lenox but I’m here … I’m on herceptin do j think that’s slowing the growth but u have to find what’s best for u … I wore a false fringe from wigs 4 u under the bandannas which made me feel more normal only wore wig about 6 times . Look at baldy beautiful on you tube she is brilliant got the fringe idea from her , she does make up tips . Got my bandannas from annabandanba really reasonable. If you want them and wig ( all clean ) you are more than welcome even as spares to play about with in private. Zoe u will get through this it bloody hard but do able. This site is fab as we all are/have been there so use it for support . Take care xxxxx
Hi Awil
Great attitude and so true. Its just a blip in our lives, I havent started chemo yet, had 2nd op to remove lymph nodes last week so need to wait for further results before I see the oncologist and get a start date.
Thanks for the idea about the false fringe, this is definately something I will look into as I have always had a fringe and would feel/look strange without one.
I have been advised to try the cold cap when having treatment to try and reduce hair loss but I know it has mixed results so want something in place before then.
Will have a look at the sites you have listed to see what they have.
Keep positive

Hi Julie … Know that feeling ? I had 2 ops in 16 days as margin wasn’t clear . Just try and take step by step you will have good days and bad ( I’m still having them ) Monday is a year since I found lump so going to keep busy this week end !!!
Yes def look at baldy beautiful Andrea she is a make up artist and went through this in 2014 lots of tips if u are good at make up but I know I felt more me with the false fringe . Wigs 4 u very helpful … Keep positive xxxx
Sorry for delayed response. Thank you Awil for your words. I hope yesterday passed without too much distress. I started on FEC on Friday and will be on herceptin once the chemo has finished, so I hope I will be able to embrace the baldness at some point. Just finding the thought terrifying. As I worry how the kids will react and my boys school friends.
I had long hair, then chopped to bob now thinking pixie may make it less of a shock.
Did you loose your eyelashes/eyebrows? Thank you for the offer of wig and bandannas, very kind of you.
Hope the herceptin is going smoothly X
Hi Zoe , every step is hard and yes you do loose all hair ? Even up your nose which feels awful… It’s all crap I won’t lie but all doable honest just try to keep as normal as possible… The baldy beautiful videos are about make up so help … God I wasn’t brave enough to show my baldness not even to my husband too shocking … I too had shoulder length hair that’s why the fringe helped me tucked under the bandanna… Finished chemo mid Oct put mascara on some stubble Xmas day so about 2 months after but I still only have a very short Anne Lenox style but at least it’s all over … You can do this , I had a card which said ’ Your stronger than you think and braver than u feel ’ I looked at that every day and thought yes another day nearer the end of this . Take care and use this site it helps loads as we know how you are feeling xxx
Might sound daft (I’m a bit clueless) but there are wigs out there that have fringes as part of them don’t they?
I have a big forehead and have always needed a fringe. Still waiting on results but am sure chemo will be needed. As I said on another thread I need to be prepared in every way.
Thank you to you all for making me feel I’m not alone AND also huge respect to you all for getting through the crap! Xxx
Hi My wig has a fringe and you can also ask for them to be trimmed to suit you, which I also did. Now I e virtually lost my eyebrows, the fringe disguises the fact, so added bonus! I also bought wig shampoo, conditioner, conditioning spray and spray gel from Simply Wigs (online) - came in a pack. I’ve only washed it once as at the moment I’m only wearing it when I leave the house (which isn’t much while I’m having chemotherapy) but once I’m back at work I think I’ll need to be washing it every 2 weeks.
Xxx
Thanks Kim! That’s a big help! All the best and you go back to work xxx
Yes there are all sorts of wigs but I found the wig uncomfortable so wore the bandanna most days and just tucked a false fringe under it … Yes it’s scary all of it even at the end but everyone says take each day and deal with that day as it’s all scary hard what ever you want to call it racing ahead in your mind is way to scary / daughting so just deal with that day or maybe the next . You will find a pattern to the treatment so you can plan socialising etc … Be strong big hugs xxx
Waiting for results is one of the worst things ever!! I just need some good news BUT I know it’s crap for each and every one of us at some point through all of this! Xxx
Thanks again for tips, nose hair really?? Going to have to keep tissues handy to stem the runny nose then. Considering semi permanent eyebrow but not sure if allowed whilst on chemo, so need to check with oncologist. Don’t fancy trying to draw them on daily.
Had my haircut shorter in prep for fall out and my 4 year old told me I looked like a boy in his class, bonus! Kids with no filters, love em.
Hope all is going well for all x
Thanks for the tip Ali x
