Hey ladie, so had my breast surgery in June and got my results on 29th July and my surgeon thinks I may need chemotherapy, I was hoping it would be just radiotherapy but as I’m medium risk he thinks it’s best to do some test for a type of chemo, I’m just so scared of chemo it’s never nice to put a toxin I. Your body but I guess if that’s the only choice I have I have to go for it , have been positive throughout even during my painful recovery but feel deflated now and scared of the side affects I’m just going into this rabbit hole of chemo and what it does to you.
Hi
Sorry you’ve been told test. Is it the oncodx test you are having done?
It may come back low enough that chemo won’t benefit you, I sat in the undecided category and it came back at 11 so they said I wouldn’t benefit from it.
Let us know how you are doing
Take care
Xx
Hi @sham
That must be disappointing if you thought you could dodge the dreaded chemo.
Do you have any idea which type of treatment will be recommended?
I’m on chemo but there was no question of whether I’d have it or not.

Hi
I am in a similar situation to you. I had surgery at the end of May, and the treatment plan was radiotherapy and letrozole for 5 years. Whilst my oncotype score is 24 so high borderline, chemo was still not thought to be beneficial. However the final histology showed that I was also HER2 positive, having being negative from the biopsy back in April. I start chemo on 12 August and it scares me. Really trying to concentrate on the positives but it is hard at the moment.
Sending hugs .
I dI’m my know yet which one I’m having done but will keep you posted x
Hello @sham
That’s a bummer about the chemo, however, despite dreading it too and being terrified before, I found it very do-able so if you do need it, it may possibly not be as bad as you fear. I found that I was only really ill for the first few days to a week after each chemo, then I would have about 10 days of feeling really quite good and normal before my next chemo infusion. So I ran through half of my chemo, walked a lot throughout and did park runs, I also went out for meals with friends as my taste buds recovered each time. Check out little lifts website too for a free box of goodies. I was also very well looked after by my hospital with medication which helped with the worst of the side effects. I’ve also been amazed at how well my body has recovered after with decent food - it didn’t take too long to bounce back once I had finished the course and for bloods to get back to normal. I quite liked ticking off all my appointments once I got my list and I found focusing on an end goal, for me it was looking forward to spring, helped to remind me that it wouldn’t last forever xx
Hi Sham,
Just wanted u to know that Emmeline is right, we all dread chemo but it’s not as bad as you are probably thinking! U will be given strong anti sickness tablets, just make sure you take them exactly as advised. A few bad days (about 3 days after chemo) where you’ll just rest on the sofa and sleep lots. Then back to normal for a couple of weeks before the next one.
Take care xxx
