willow foundation, younger ladies, and men!

Thought i should start a thread to ensure that any younger ladies are aware of the willow foundation. Its a charity who arrange and fund good days for younger people (under 40 i think) who fill certain poor health criteria. Breast cancer diagnosis is a free invite to the group, as long as you are having active treatment when you apply! Its worth having a look, they fund things like weekends away at centerparcs for your family, or motor racing days etc. Its so hard being diagnosed with this disease at this age ( I am 36) and its so nice to have a charity who acknowledges that and tries to provide you with something nice, after a pretty lousy time for the person and their families.

I had asked for tickets to see the x factor finals but sadly it was too late to organise! So am now thinking of what other exciting day/event i could attend. If you could do anything, within reason, as an exciting day out/event, what would you choose? I warn you that i will happily steal any good ideas suggested!

I am not a younger lady or man can I butt in and say I think driving an Eddie Stobart lorry would be just brill so come on you young uns what would you like to do?Jackie

I took advantage of this charity last year and it was wonderful, I went to London stayed in a beautiful hotel, and went to see Love Never Dies at the West End, they covered my return train travel, transfers, breakfast, theatre tickets and money to cover expenses at the hotel (I used it on room service) it was a fabulous weekend and one that my friend and I will remember for a long time.

Snap Poppet

I did exactly the same thing! It really was wonderful and we even got transfers from the train station. The show was brillinat/

Part of me wishes I had tried to get something a little more unique - tickets to Strictly Come Dancing would be my choice now!

They are trying to sort us Glastonbury tickets. Dx

I went to York with my husband. We had 2 nights stay in a beautiful hotel overlooking the Minster, we got passes to see all York attractions which were amazing and something we would never do normally. We had breakfast and evening meal (food fantastic) plus spending money given and £100 tab on the bar! We had the most fabulous time and will never forget it. We will always be greatful to the Willow Foundation, they organised it all, and it was just what we needed after an awful year.
Iw ould definately recommend something like this!!!

This sounds fantastic and would be something I would definitely be interested in so thanks for posting it! How easy/difficult is the application process?

the form is easy and i had a fab break in london, went to 15 restuarant, and was made to feel like royalty!

I have a weekend at center parcs booked through this foundation and it is really lovely to have this to look forward too for when radiotherapy is finished. Also a nice treat for my husband and kids as they are being dragged through this hell with me.

other ideas since have been …concert tickets, hot air balloon ride, theme park tickets…

hi i had a 4 night break at butlins with my hubby and 2 children in june this yr. it was fantastic they paid for room and food they really are a brillant foundation.xx

I’m bumping this up because I’ve not seen anybody mention the Willow Foundation on the bcc forum for a while and I don’t want younger women to miss out on the lovely experiences this charity arranges for younger people diagnosed with, amongst many other illnesses, breast cancer. It’s an easy form that you get your medical team to countersign, but you need to do the form during active treatment, though the experience can be afterward it’s ended if you prefer.

If you’re between chemo and surgery, it that considered active treatment?

How do you go about applying?
Thanks,
RAe

Hi
I think the criteria has changed and they are only accepting applications from people with recurrent cancer or mets. Shame, they say they are victim of their own success. Just google willow foundation for info.
