Hi Just bumping this up on the off chance any Wiltshire-ites around.
Hi Artemis, I’m near Stonehenge so being treated at Salisbury. So far, apart from the fact that I’ve had to chase every scan, it’s all happened very quickly. Had diagnosis on 31 May, left side MX and AX clearance on 12 June. I think we might have “spoken” on the July Junkies thread. Haven’t you got a tissue expander? Get my scan results (8 nodes affected) and treatment plan tomorrow when I meet onc. All very scary. xx
Hi Artemis,
I hope you’re okay, I live in Bristol and have my treatment at the Bristol Oncoloy Centre so i’m not too far away. I’m 42 and was diagnosed 28th May with Grade 3 BC, had my first Chemotherapy last Wednesday as they are hoping to shrink the tumour before they operate. It’s a very scary time for all of us but we need to keep positive Feel free to message me anytime, take care, Caroline xx
Hi Artemis and others- I’m not in Wilts but I used to work at PMH in Swindon, leaving just before they tore it down! Can you explain why people get Chemo and support at The Ridgeway when it’s a private hospital? Is this an example of public/private crossover? I had an arthroscopy for my OA in my ankle at a private hospital 5 years ago on the NHS. The treatment was very good but the doctors treated us like “Us and Them”. The Orthopod outpatients and day hospital at Tetbury Hospital is amazing though and still has the atmosphere of a very good cottage hospital. Just wondering about things in Swindon…have a soft spot for the place in my heart for some reason!
Hi penny,
Re your message, im not being treated in Swindon so afraid i cant comment.
Take care
Hi,
i am based just outside Chippenham and being treated through RUH in Bath. Diagnosed at end of May this year and had wide excision and reconstruction 4 wks ago which is healing well although I am a bit like the leaning tower of pisa until other one is done which is someway off! Was looking just at radiotherapy which was already freaking me out a bit but op revealed grade 3 so seeing oncologist on 15 th with view to chemo first. Not working now as I am self employed and usually go to client sites which I won’t be able to sustain so now hobby-ing and watching too much daytime tv ( thank god for tennis! )
What is your situation?
A
Hi Penny - I chose to have chemo privately at The Ridgeway through my husband’s insurance but had my surgery at GWH as it was all booked in so quickly after dx. Both hospitals and the breast cancer teams have been brilliant and seem to work quite closely together. The support group is for anyone with BC, regardless of where treatment is. I remember the old PMH well - both my children were born there. Glad they tore it down though - the replacement Great Western Hospital is just amazing! Shame there’s no radiotherapy unit there (apparently coming in 2016) so I will have to travel to Bath for rads -at least the shopping’s good!
