Wired bras

Hi. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy in March/April 2019 (no node involvement) followed by radiotherapy and have been on Letrozole since.
I haven’t worn wired bras since but am wondering if it’s ok to wear wired bras now even if only occasionally? The wires would not lie on my scars. Thank you.

Hi @Nervousnellie

I know the nurses will come back to you but wanted to respond as I asked about this last year. I went back to wired bras as soon as I could after surgery (even wore one to my results appointment I was that keen to get back to normal!) and have worn them daily since with no problem. I was told as long as it is comfortable there is no issue. x

Hi @Nervousnellie I don’t know if you follow Dr Liz O’Riordan (the breast cancer surgeon who has had breast cancer) on YouTube or via her podcast but she has a short video on this and the answer is yes, they are fine to wear if comfortable and no underwired bras do not contribute towards getting breast cancer (an old wives tale).

Thank you, southwest123, that’s really good to know. The range of non-wired bras gets pretty dull after a while and it’s good to feel “normal”!xx

Thanks, Tigress, I do follow Dr Liz O’Riordan on Instagram but obviously missed her piece on underwired bras. That’s reassuring information, thank you.xx

Hello Nervousnellie,

Thank you for posting.

It’s understandable that you want to know whether you can wear a wired bra after your lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy, and radiotherapy in 2019.

As @southwest123 and @Tigress say, there is no reason not to wear under wire bras as long as they are comfortable.
