I have asked this question before what proof do we have that tamoxifen can cause womb cancer? Surely we would hear more about it on the forum if this was quite common. I know that there must be many thousands of ladies who are prescribed tamoxifen and take it without thinking about the possibility of it causing womb cancer. I would like to hear from anyone who has any information.
Hi, hormone balance plays a part in the development of some womb cancers. Tamoxifen acts like an anti oestrogen in body tissue such as breast tissue but acts like oestrogen in womb tissue and more oestrogen adds to the risk of womb cancer. The risk is only about 1% and the benefits from tamoxifen far outweigh the risk of womb cancer and if cancer does develop it is usually cured by surgery.
