World athletics Novlene Williams Mills

I had a double mastectomy and implant reconsruction, after DCIS in both breasts three weeks ago. Today, after overdoing it a bit yesterday (was in a lot of pain last night), decided to take it easy and have been watching the world athletics. Starting by watching the women’s marathon and was knackered just watching them, I have just watched a Jamacan woman, Novlene Williams-Mills run in a 400m heat. Watching her I thought to myself, ‘Hey her boobs look good and quite perky for an athlete’. You do become quite boob obsessed when you’ve had breast cancer. The commentator then told us that this amazing woman was diagnosed with breast cancer last June and has had a double mastectomy. I know she’s an athete, but how inspiring is she!! In just over a year she has had a double mastecomy, reconstruction surgery and is running in a world championship. Now I know that is not something I will be doing anytime soon but the fab Novlene has inspired me and reminded me that there is life after breast cancer. You go giril!!

Wow is all I can say! Taken me a year to re-enter a gym!

We need more stories like this, certainly inspiring. Can’t hope to emulate her but will certainly stop me moaning about my aches and pains. Will follow her progress with interest. Thank you for sharing it.

I saw this on tv too made me feel a bit of a wimp!!! Absolutely fantastic. She was really fast too xxx
