Hi there. I had my lumpectomy op on 31st Oct and don’t see my oncologist til 28th December. Been told wait for radiotherapy is 37 days after that appointment. That takes the time post surgery to 14 weeks. Everything I have read says 12 weeks should be the outer limit on time so I am really worried about this. I have managed to get a phone appointment tomorrow with the doctor so am going to see if anything can be done to speed it up at all.
The other complication is my lumpectomy wound is not healing great. I am 4 weeks post op today and it is like a leaky tap due to a haematoma. Due to see surgeon again on Thursday to see what if anything they can do other than keep redressing every 3 days which is what I have been doing for last 11 days.
So, I want radio to be sooner than planned but also worried I won’t be healed enough…

Hi, I had to wait 18 weeks to start radiotherapy. I was so concerned about the delay that I asked my Breast Cancer specialist whether this delay would impact on my breast cancer outcome. She assured me it would not. The reason for the delay was due to the extremely high volume of cancer patients waiting for an Oncologist appointment and Radiotherapy. It is important that the skin has healed before radiotherapy starts.
I have completed my radiotherapy now which went smoothly and just had a follow up MRI to check another possible area of concern which turned out to be benign.
I have found the waiting for results and then treatment quite awful.
