I’m also really afraid that I’ve got liver mets. Not got any pain but have been feeling really nauseous for last few days. I’ve been to the GP and had blood tests which have come back as normal. Started feeling unwell about two weeks ago with really bad head aches but now they have gone.
I’ll have to make appt with onc but really don’t want to since have been to see him with loads of scares in the past which have turned out to be nothing. My GP thinks I have a real case of hypochondria - just imagining things wrong with my body that aren’t there.
How long should I wait before going to the oncologist?
Hi Susie – I’m always so disappointed when I hear about GPs not taking our symptoms seriously, but I know from experience that GPs don’t always have the specialist knowledge or access to appropriate resources to help us when/if we are worried about secondaries. You haven’t said anything about your BC “history”, so I don’t know if you might have contact with a MacMillan nurse or a hospice team, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to see your oncologist now if you have new pain or other symptoms – s/he is the best person to refer you for scans or other tests that will give you more information, so go for it! Also, don’t forget that BCC and Cancerbackup have telephone help lines, if you want to talk to someone about your situation & worries who will be able to give you some more immediate support.
The BCC helpline is open today up until 2pm if you would like to give them a ring for some reassurance and advice. The calls are free, 0808 800 6000. If you can’t get to call today the lines reopen on Monday morning at 9am - 5pm (Mon to Fri). Hope BCC can be of help to you.
