Worried about my daughter

Hi

Is it possible?

My 11 year old daughter has informed me tonight that she can feel a lump in her breast! Now I’m worried as I was dx last Christmas and have recently found out that one of my Aunt’s had it as well.

I’m going to take her to the doctors on Monday but I will have the worry all over the weekend. I’m sure it’s nothing but a girl at her school, same age was dx with Ovarian cancer last year!

Can children get BC?

At ll, your daughter might just be developing breast tissue. Girls typically develop what are called breast buds behind and around the nipple and then the rest of the breast develops over the next few years. But I don’t blame you for wanting it checked out.

Hi Amanda

I am sorry to read that you have this worry about your daughter, I am posting a link to our Breast m8s page which you both may find helpful to read as it contains information for girls under 16 regarding breast development:

You are also welcome to call our helpline on 0808 800 6000 which is open Sat 9-2 and weekdays 9-5

Best wishes

Lucy and folks at BCC–I just followed the link to your breast m8s page. Congratulations on a terrific resourse, very well set out.

I’d like to recommend this to anyone with younger daughters or granddaughers, and not just for the cancer information.

Thank you for your comments Cheryl, I will pass your very helpful feedback on to the team

Best wishes
Lucy

Hi Amanda

One of my girlies complained of lumps behind the nipples when she was about 10, and I also took her to the doctor. As explained it was breast bud development and all perfectly normal. Don’t worry that you’ve been hit by hypochondria either, as that happened with my family long before BC raised its ugly head.

Your GP really shouldn’t have a problem with putting your mind at rest, so if you and your daughter do still want further reassurance, do go along to see your GP.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the replies and reassurance. I’m sure it is a breast bud, but will take her to the GP to have it checked.

Thank you again.
