worried about tests before treatment

I was diagnosed with BC the other day, Its quite a large tumour so the consultant said I would be having chemo first to reduce the size, then a mastectomy then radiation then reconstruction. Next week I’m having a bone scan and also sentinal lymph node removed. I’m worried about what the bone scan - I’m terrified that they are going to find the cancer has spread and they can’t treat it. That is my main worry at the moment, about the rest of my body :o(

Anybody else going through this?

Thanks Daysie x

Hi Daysie

The worrying is awful about it spreading, i think everyone goes through this. I have a back pain problem that comes and goes and was so concerned it was related as i had this before diagnosis. I recently had a bone scan and it came back clear so hopefully that will put your mind at rest.

I also had the sentinal lymph nodes taken at time of surgery (6intotal) and mine were clear, i hope this is the case for you too. If they do find cancer in any of the nodes they will prob remove them all and even if lymph nodes are involved it doesnt mean its spread anywhere else and thats what the chemo is for to kill any stray cells (i think - someone please correct me if im wrong)

Take care and keep occupied until your scan. I managed to get my results a couple of days later from my scan so hopefully you wont have to wait long either.

Hi Daysie,

I know exactly how you are feeling. I was diagnosed in August with grade 1, IDC, 9mm. After having WLE and SNB it was discovered that one of the two nodes taken out contained tiny cancer cells. On Friday I went in for a partial axillary clearance and now have a two week wait for the results. The waiting is definitely the worst part. Like you my mind is racing, thinking every little ache & pain is connected but when you are stressed the body tenses and you find aches in muscles you didn’t know you had. I now am probably facing chemo, as it has gone to lymph glands but like everyone here says, it is doable.

Look after yourself and do what your body tells you.
