Worried need mammagram and ultrasound

Hi, just wanted Some advice. Saw breast specialist yesterday as I’ve had pain top of breast with yellow sticky discharge from right breast one duct. comes on night clothes as dried yellow dot.for last 4 months. Had baby a year ago but never breast fed. The specialist examined me and said the right breast seems very glandular. Not sure what that means. He took slide of the nipple discharge. He never said a lot but just said seems a benign condition. But my worry is he want me to have mammagram and ultrasound next week on Thursday. so I’m still very anxious and waiting again. Any views or information would be great.

It could be to make sure there is nothing there if he thinks it is benign but thy need to find out in order to know exactly what they are dealing with and how to treat it.

Thank you mapie for your reply. Yes I’m sure you are right. Just the waiting is horrible. Another week to go before I have test done. Then I’m not sure if I have to wait for results or I’ll know that day! Had horrible shotting pains in right breast today too. I just be glad to have some clear answers! thanks again. How r u?

Just remember, Hay, that pains are always worse when we are worrying about what they are. Everyone on here will tell you that being ‘in the waiting room’ (ie waiting for appointments and results) is the worst part.

Try not to over think it. Your doctor is fairly sure it’s nothing to worry about, but at least he’s getting it checked to make sure, so you are in the best possible place! Be as ‘normal’ as you can to take your mind off it. (Easier said than done, I know!)

9 out of 10 breast problems are NOT cancer, but even if it is, you are on the way to getting rid of it!

Good luck for your tests. let us know how you get on, so we can celebrate your good news or support you if it’s not so good. Hugs.

Sorry the last word is meant to mean Here!

Hi Hay123,
Don’t worry your not alone, I too have tests next Wednesday, due to nipple change, am feeling worried.
Keep Chin up! and there is always support on her

Hi all, had a letter cc to me from the breast speaclist. It’s worried me more. First it read problem is lump and nipple discharge.well I was never aware of lump just glandular tissue with nipple discharge was said on Mondays appointment. He also wrote brown nipple discharge on letter. Well to me it looks yellow and dries yellow. Also wrote I can feel nodular breast tissue on right upper quater, Which is inderminate (what the hell does that mean!!!)
This has made me worry so much, got to wait till Thursday 10.10 for the one stop diagnostic clinic.
any advice girls??? Especially on wording of letter

Do you mean indeterminate? That just means he doesn’t know what it is! Nodular breast tissue on right upper quarter just says it’s a bit lumpy in the top bit. It is good that you are going to a one stop diagnostic unit because you will get your results quicker.

Hang onto the fact that most lumps turn out to be something other than cancer. Your doc has already said he thinks it’s benign. He’d have kept schtum if he thought otherwise!! My breast specialists said nothing at all about my strange mammo pic and ultra sound. They just looked increasingly concerned. Nobody mentioned the ‘c’ word but nobody said anything about benign conditions either!! (It WAS very invasive cancer cells. Now all gone, thanks to my surgeon, and hopefully staying away thanks to hormone therapy!)

Try not to worry too much. Yes, I know that’s nearly impossible, but whatever the lump turns out to be, worrying won’t alter it! And you’re getting it ‘seen to’ which is good.

Be gentle with yourself and get emotional support where you can. I found talking about my upcoming appointments with friends and family helped me a lot! Also keeping busy. Good Luck on Thursday. <hugs> </hugs>

Thanks jcj, it’s so kind of you to take time to explain. Yes the word was indeterminate. Do you think that’s why he is saying lump because there is lumpy tissue???
so pleased you are doing well now. Look after yourself x

Hi Hay123

As well as the support you are receiving on the forums you might find it helps to talk things through with a member of staff on the helpline. I know June has mentioned this to you above but just wanted to remind you the staff there are able to offer you emotional support and practical information. They’re on 0808 800 6000 and are open 9-5 Monday to Friday and 10-2 Saturday.

Hi had my mammagram/ultrasound last Thursday. When I went in have my ultrasound, the radiologist said my breast were asymetrical! She started my utrasound and said the area were I was experiencing pain(top of right breast) seem darker and less dence in the whole area. Then underneath was normal whiter, as the same with left breast. She said it seems weird and never seen it before. She ask another radiologist to take a look and said the same. There were no lump just this darker area. I started to cry, as it worried me. She tried to reassure me this has no markers for breast cancer, just looks different. she gave me 2 options to come back 3/4 months to review area again or for peace of mind now have a core biopsy. Which is what I done. I get results back Tuesday pm but I’m so worried what this darker area could be, could it be from being kick by my baby as I mention above, could it be normal for me or could it really be cancer with no lump or mass on mammagram or ultrasound??? Can’t sleep with the worry. Could this be the start of cancer. My mind all over the place. Radiologist was lovely and tried to reassure me. Has anyone had wide area of darker breast tissue and been ok. My nipple smear can back clear  please need some advice.

As no one has come back to you and you must be out of your mind with worry I would recommend that you do call the helpline here.
